Bye Bye Breda: Final Ride & Farewell Toast
San Francisco is saying goodbye to a transit icon. After nearly 30 years of service, Muni’s Breda light rail vehicles are retiring from the streets they helped shape. Join us for one last ride — and raise a toast to the end of an era.
Ride the Breda one last time
Step aboard a piece of San Francisco history. On Wednesday, November 12, one final Breda train will return to passenger service on the J Church line — giving riders a last chance to experience the clunks, dings and daily rhythms of a fleet that moved our city for nearly 30 years.
- Service Hours: 11:45 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (subject to change)
- Route: Standard J Church Line
This is your chance to relive the feeling of a classic Muni ride — or experience it for the first time before the Breda fleet exits the tracks for good.

Farewell Happy Hour at Churchill
After your ride, head over to Churchill (198 Church St at Market) for a casual farewell toast with fellow transit fans, staff and neighbors.
- Time: 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- No-host bar, Breda-themed cheer and shared memories encouraged.
- Come in Muni gear or bring your best story with Breda.
Why it matters
The Bredas were more than just trains — they were a symbol of San Francisco’s growth and transformation. From the dot-com boom to the T Third launch and daily commutes across town, they carried generations of riders and memories.
As we move forward with a more modern, reliable and accessible fleet, we’re pausing to honor the past. This is your chance to be part of that story.
