Faces of Muni: Meet Orkid Sassouni

Orkid is pictured sitting on a bench, smiling while seated on a bench in front of a Muni bus shelter.

Meet Orkid, a public library employee, frequent Muni rider, and member of the Mayor’s Disability Council. As a deaf person, Orkid reminds us that disability is not always apparent or visible. Accessibility on public transportation is designed to serve everybody effectively, regardless of ability. Through her role on the Disability Council, Orkid helps shape policies that prioritize accessibility. As a Muni rider, she understands how vital public transportation is in connecting people to their communities.

Orkid’s experience reminds us that accessibility can’t be optional, it’s essential. As we continue highlighting community voices through Faces of Muni, we welcome you to join the conversation. Tell us what accessible transportation means to you by commenting below or using the hashtag #MuniMatters
