On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Program – call for participation

Service Affected
Parking

Based on evaluation of its on-street car share parking pilot program, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has established an On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Program. Participation in the permit program is open to qualified vehicle sharing organizations (VSOs) that commit to permit requirements and conditions regarding data collection, vehicle placement, and vehicle ownership and availability.

Before soliciting permit applications for any locations, the SFMTA invites interested entities to submit a brief statement of their qualifications for permit program participation. Qualified VSOs must provide preapproved members access to a citywide network (at least one vehicle located in at least 8 of the 11 supervisorial districts) of at least 10 motor vehicles in the City and County of San Francisco and meet the requirements set forth in the Transportation Code, including all conditions specified in the On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Application, which can be found here:

SFMTA On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Application

Qualified entities must also commit to compliance with other conditions of the On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Program:

  • VSOs must locate a minimum of 15% of their On-Street Shared Vehicle spaces in each of Shared Vehicle Permit Zone 2 and Zone 3, as defined in the Transportation Code.
  • Shared Vehicles parked in permitted parking spaces are exempt from street cleaning enforcement, but permittee is required to maintain the spaces and 25 feet on either side to the satisfaction of the SFMTA and Public Works.
  • The SFMTA will periodically review the usage of all shared on-street parking spaces to reassess performance standards, evaluate shared spaces, and revoke a VSO’s permit for some spaces if, in the SFMTA’s judgment, their usage is too low.

Entities seeking recognition as a qualified VSO under the SFMTA parking permit program should submit a brief statement of their qualifications by September 22, 2017 to svp@sfmta.com. Again, all conditions specified in the On-Street Shared Vehicle Parking Permit Application must be affirmatively committed or an entity will not be qualified for permit program participation.
