Muni Subway Shutdowns for New Train Testing

Muni Metro subway closures for tests on new Muni trains start this Saturday, July 22 until Sunday, Aug. 20, except for Aug. 11 - 13. Subway service will close early on weekdays at 9:30 p.m., and all weekend from Fridays nights until Monday mornings. Muni Metro trains will continue to operate on the surface during the test period. The new Muni trains have been arriving since January and are ready for the next phase of testing in the Metro subway.

SF Marathon

Sunday, 5:30 a.m.
The Embarcadero

Thousands of runners will take to the streets this Sunday for the San Francisco Marathon. Five different races will take runners into the Mission, the Haight-Ashbury, Dogpatch, Golden Gate Park, and out along The Embarcadero. Once runners cross the finish line, there will be a post-event festival along The Embarcadero.

How to Get There on Muni: The F Market and Wharves Line and the 5 Fulton, 6 Haight/Parnassus, 7 Haight/Noriega, 9 San Bruno, 14 Mission/14R Mission Rapid, 21 Hayes, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary/38R Geary Rapid and 41 Union routes will get you close to the starting line.

Subway Alternative: (The subway will be closed due to new train testing). Starting at 8 a.m. to coincide with the usual Sunday opening of the subway, Muni bus shuttles will operate between Embarcadero Station and St. Francis Circle and between Embarcadero Station and Church and Duboce streets.

Muni Service Note: The 6 Haight/Parnassus, 7 Haight/Noriega, 10 Townsend, 19 Polk, 22 Fillmore, 24 Divisadero, 28 19th Avenue, 29 Sunset, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 37 Corbett, 43 Masonic, 44 O’Shaughnessy, 48 Quintara/24th Street, and 55 16th Street routes will be rerouted.

Reminder: J Church Stop Changes at Balboa Park

Due to construction for the Balboa Park Station Area and Plaza Improvement Project, the J Church Line will continue to serve alternate stops on San Jose Avenue until the fall.

Reminder: Van Ness Construction

All left turn lanes on Van Ness Avenue have been removed with the exceptions of those at Broadway (southbound), Lombard Street (northbound) and temporarily at Hayes Street (northbound).

Van Ness traffic lanes have been reduced from three to two on these segments:

Northbound from Post to Filbert Street
Southbound from Filbert to Washington Street
