Kimberly Ackerman

Kimberly W. Ackerman joined as Director of Human Resources for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) in September 2019. As a member of the agency’s leadership team, she is responsible for overseeing all Human Resources functions for the agency’s more than 6,000 employees.

With more than 25 years of public sector experience working for state government, local municipalities, and in the transit industry including, Ackerman most recently served as Chief Human Resources Officer for Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) in Virginia. In this capacity, she was responsible for the strategic direction, and daily management, of the agency’s Human Resources department. Prior to her tenure at Hampton Roads Transit, Ms. Ackerman served for eleven years as Director of Human Resources for the Greater Richmond Transit System (GRTC).

She  holds a Bachelor Degree in Urban Studies and Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and worked as an urban planner in local government for six years. She is passionate about developing efficient public transportation, while creating dynamic workplaces that foster collaboration, mentoring and professional growth.
