Starting September 20: Installation of Temporary HOV lanes on Lombard and Richardson

In coordination with Caltrans, and following the SFMTA Board of Directors’ approval of the Park Presidio Lombard Temporary HOV Lanes this past April, the temporary HOV lanes are planned to be installed between September 20-30, 2021 on Lombard Avenue and Richardson Drive. The temporary HOV lanes on Park Presidio and Crossover Drive are planned to be installed in October.

Planned installation dates of the temporary HOV lanes: September 20-30, 2021 (Lombard Avenue and Richardson Drive)

Timeline of painting: Approximately two weeks. Work will take place during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to early afternoon.

Parking impacts: Parking may be temporarily restricted while crews paint the temporary HOV lanes. Please watch for posted notifications and signs. Parking will not be impacted by the project after painting is complete, with the exception of a few spaces where there will temporarily be large digital message signs informing drivers of the changes.

Traffic impacts: Temporary closures of lanes while crews paint the roadway.

Transit impacts: Minor transit impacts may occur due to crews working.

Once installed, these lanes will be usable by passenger vehicles with two or more passengers and will help to improve the frequency and reliability of Muni and Golden Gate Transit service by keeping buses out of traffic.

Additionally, please note that as of August 14, Muni’s 28 19th Avenue returned to Lombard Street and now travels from Daly City BART to the Marina.
