Dear Taxi Industry Member

Please be advised of the NO TURN ON RED Downtown Expansion Project. As shown on the attached illustration, the project is an area-wide regulation for NO TURN ON RED (NTOR) on nearly all signalized intersections approaches in the downtown core area. The legislation impacts approximately 200 intersections and is a low-cost measure to improve pedestrian safety by keeping crosswalks clear of vehicles attempting to turn on red. The proposed project area will expand the currently installed Tenderloin NTOR area that was completed in 2021 and has proven successful.

This item will be heard at an Engineering Public Hearing on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10 AM; details can found here. Also attached is the public notice that will be posted at each of the impacted intersections. If the project is approved after the hearing, NO TURN ON RED signs are planned to be installed beginning in April and will run through August 2025.
