San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is rolling out service plans and transit themed activities in support of FIFA World Cup 26™ SF Bay Area. Muni is the best way to get to events in San Francisco all summer and all year. Pride Month, Juneteenth and World Cup festivities will bring crowds from around the world to the city with visitors and locals enjoying all the activity.

The SFMTA is working with the Mayor's Office, the Bay Area Host Committee and regional transit agencies to ensure public safety and smooth transportation to destinations throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area.

All Bay Area transit, including Muni, now accept contactless debit or credit cards and mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay for adult fare payment. No setup is required. Just tap to pay. A transfer discount of up to $2.85 will apply to any additional transit agency the rider uses within a two-hour window. Muni Day Passes and multi-day fare passports are also available. Visit SFMTA.com/fares to learn more about fare and payment options.

Major events like this show how Muni collaborates with regional transit partners to deliver seamless travel," said Julie Kirschbaum, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “Agencies across the Bay Area are coordinating closely to make transit a great choice for people heading to events and watch parties and we're all ready to get people around. We're grateful to all of our local and regional partners working to keep the Bay Area moving safely during this exciting time.”

"The Bay Area stands ready to once again take center stage as the epicenter of sport while playing host to the biggest sporting event in the world,” said Zaileen Janmohamed, President and CEO of the Bay Area Host Committee. “Fan transport has been a priority focus for us during years of planning with our mobility working group, and we’re thankful to our numerous transit partners for helping to create timely and efficient service around the World Cup and the numerous fan experiences taking place throughout the Bay.”

Strike Gold on the Muni Goal Rush

In partnership with the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the SFMTA is kicking off a new citywide game: the Muni Goal Rush. The latest Muni crawl is a fun and engaging way for visitors and locals to patronize local businesses by taking transit.

"This exciting partnership brings together two staples of San Francisco: local businesses and Muni,” said Rodney Fong, President and CEO of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. “The Goal Rush is something we created to bring people out to explore the city, celebrate with each other, and discover new places to fall in love with. We’re proud to partner with Muni to help people get to a local business and showcase the very best of San Francisco.”

Riders can play the game to explore neighborhoods across the city, discover a new local spot and be entered to win prizes. Learn how to play and pick up a Muni Goal Rush game card at a participating business and on the Muni Goal Rush website (SFMTA.com/GoalRush).

Summer Events on Muni

In celebration of Pride month, the agency also rolled out the Pride bus with a new in-house design that can be found on lines throughout the city. Follow the Pride bus on the agency’s fun map

Service details for the Juneteenth Parade on June 20th and the Pride Parade on June 27th will be posted on the SFMTA’s website and to social media platforms as they become available.

Muni received its highest customer satisfaction rating ever, with 78% of survey respondents rating Muni “excellent” or “good.” Almost half (48%) of respondents said they take Muni for leisure trips, the same amount as people taking work commutes.

Special events in the city continue to boost Muni ridership, particularly on weekends.

  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, the system served 410,000 trips, with almost 3.5 million trips served during the full week of Super Bowl LX activities.
  • The Chinese New Year Parade and Union Square Tulip Festival helped bring the system’s weekend ridership to 99% of pre-pandemic levels in March.

Thrive City FIFA World Cup 26™ Watch Parties, Chase Center and Oracle Park Events

Riders can take Muni to Thrive City (Chase Center) for watch parties from June 11-July 19, 2026. Thrive City is directly served by Muni’s T Third train, 22 Fillmore bus and 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express bus.

The Third continues to be a fast and easy way to get to events all over the city. Muni recently made improvements to speed up the line between the Bryant Portal and Dogpatch neighborhoods, making trips to the Chase Center, Oracle Park and Caltrain faster and more efficient.

  • Early results show that service on the T Third sped up 10-14% with more improvements to come to Third Street in the Bayview neighborhood.
