Bayview Community Shuttle - September Update

Shuttle Request for Proposals deadline extended

The SFMTA Request for Proposals for the Bayview Community Shuttle, inviting shuttle vendors to bid on an up to $6 million contract to provide shuttle service for the Bayview-Hunters Point, was released on August 16th. The proposal deadline was recently extended from September 30th to October 10th; we got a lot of interest and a lot of questions from potential vendors. By extending the proposal deadline, we can help ensure a lot of qualified bidders will submit great proposals. We hope to have a vendor selected by December, with service starting in early 2024.

Community Shuttle featured on SFMTA Podcast

The Community Shuttle Program was a recent guest on the SFMTA Taken with Transportation podcast. The podcast includes an interview with District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton and our community partners. Give it a listen!

Survey results – where do you want to go?

Working with our community partners over the summer, we participated in 21 events across the Bayview, engaged over 1,400 residents, and collected over 550 surveys! We’ve been working through survey responses, learning where people want to go, when they want to take trips, and what else they need from a community shuttle service. The map below shows some of the locations people want to reach most, including regional transit like BART or Caltrain, nearby grocery stores, the San Bruno Ave business corridor, local parks, and the 3rd Street corridor.

Map of the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood. The map shows circles representing survey responses that indicate a desired destination for the shuttle.

Note: Larger circles represent more survey responses for desired destinations

Our next steps are to build a few options for service plans based on the responses we got. We’ll bring those options back to the community this Fall to make sure the shuttle works for the needs of today’s residents.
