Route(s) Affected

The 38 Geary/38R Geary Rapid bus stop on Geary Boulevard at 6th Avenue outbound has moved across the street to the west side of 6th Avenue as of this morning. This new location will allow buses to benefit from transit signal priority, which helps buses catch more green lights. It will also provide direct access to residents of the new senior affordable housing development that recently opened at this corner.

A new bus bulb was recently constructed here in coordination with the adjacent development. The bulb provides a wider sidewalk, giving people more room to wait. It also will have a shelter and real-time information to let people know when their bus is arriving.

Update on Geary bus stop amenities

New amenities have been installed at bus stops along the Geary Boulevard Improvement Project area, including:

  • Shelters: Earlier this year, we completed installing bus shelters at all feasible locations (the 22nd Avenue outbound local stop is the only location where a shelter is not feasible due to site constraints).
  • Signage: All bus stops also have received new signage that makes it easier to find your bus stop and see which stops are served by Rapid buses.

Real-time information: Real-time information to let you know when your next bus is coming is now active at 13 of 17 stops in the project area. The other four are pending installation of electrical power which is anticipated by 2027 as a part of the construction phase of the project (we are also investigating options to bring power to these locations sooner).
