Construction Forecast

Construction is about to begin on the Geary Rapid Project. The first phase of work, to replace aging water and sewer lines between Masonic and Van Ness avenues, is being done in coordination with San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Work between Presidio Avenue and Fillmore Street is expected to start in late January. As part of this work, there may be temporary lane closures and/or parking restrictions.

Week of January 28:

  • During the week of January 28, crews will pothole for a few hours at Presidio Avenue to determine the location of existing underground utilities.

Weekend lane closures beginning February 2:

  • The eastbound Geary frontage road from Presidio Avenue to Lyon Street will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, from February 2 through February 17, while crews work on sewer main replacement.
  • Eastbound traffic will be slightly detoured, and parking will be restricted on the south side of Geary Boulevard between Presidio Avenue and Lyon Street.
  • No bus stops will be affected. Inbound 38/38R Geary buses will be slightly rerouted, which will add some travel time.

Construction scheduling is subject to change due to weather delays or unexpected field conditions.
