Work on the Ortega Neighborway has started! A couple of weeks ago, the stop signs at Ortega Street at 33rd and 34th avenues were changed from two-way to four-way stops. Over the next few weeks in September, other safety upgrades will be added, like changing the crosswalks to a high visibility continental crosswalk and adding a pedestrian safety zone at the northeast corner of Ortega and 40th Avenue.
Also, the project will add red curbs at intersections, called "intersection daylighting," to make it easier for everyone to see at crossings. This is part of a recently adopted California law to make roads safer.
More safety features, like speed cushions and a raised crosswalk at the west crosswalk at Ortega and 37th Avenue, will be put in later this fall.
The Kirkham Neighborway project will begin implementation in early 2025.
