Construction Update

North Beach Utility Relocation

This week Central Subway crews completed construction of a sewer manhole and a sewer pipe.

Next week the contractor will begin sewer construction in the right lane for southbound traffic, and changes to traffic, transit and pedestrian impacts are planned.

Starting Tuesday, November 13, the following changes are planned to take effect:

  • The right lane for southbound traffic (westernmost lane) will be closed on Columbus Avenue between Powell and Union streets during construction hours (7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
  • Both lanes for northbound traffic will be open at all times.
  • The southbound bus stop on Columbus Avenue at Union Street will be closed during construction hours. Nearby bus stops are listed below under Transit Impacts.
  • The northbound bus stop on Columbus Avenue at Union Street will be reopened, and buses will stop there as regularly scheduled.
  • The westbound bus stop on Union Street at Columbus Avenue will remain temporarily relocated about 100 feet to the east during construction hours.
  • The crosswalk crossing Columbus Avenue at Union Street may be impacted. Cones will be in place to designate a safe path of travel.
