Progress on Upgrades for Trolley Bus Storage

Share this:

Progress is being made to ready the MME back four acres to store and maintain electric trolley buses. When the Potrero Bus Yard goes under construction, some trolley buses would be stored and maintained here to be kept in a state of good repair.

The SFMTA continues to be efficient and innovative with its use of facilities. To be able to charge trolley buses on site, the facilities team has installed overhead lines above one of the rail tracks at the Muni Metro East Rail Yard. Trolley buses can be charged at that track during off-peak hours without impacting train movements. The track closest to Illinois Street was selected for trolley bus charging due to its ease of access for buses entering and exiting the rail yard. The overhead lines will be able to charge at least two buses at a time.
