A Busy Weekend: Cherry Blossom Festival, Lowrider Cruise, Sunday Streets and More

There will be no shortage of events this weekend in San Francisco. Head over to Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park to catch SF Deltas soccer or to West Portal for the 29th annual Fine Arts and Crafts Show. Check out this week's featured events below.
Lowrider Cruise and Family Activities
Saturday
Along Mission and 24th streets in the Mission District
The Mission will host a lowrider car cruise in celebration of the 20-year anniversary of the film Selena, along with enough family-friendly activities to spend a whole day shopping, eating and experiencing the culture of the Mission.
Also taking place in the Mission on Saturday will be the SF Walk Against Rape. The route is along Mission Street between 16th and 24th streets, starting at noon. Both the walk and the lowrider cruise will impact Muni service in the area.
Cherry Blossom Festival
Saturday and Sunday
Japantown
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival in historic Japantown. This annual celebration of Japanese culture and the diversity of the Japanese-American Community is spread across two weekends and attracts more than 200,000 people each year. Free and open to the public, the festival features cultural performances, martial arts, live bands as well as food and retail vendors.
How to Get There on Muni: The 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 22 Fillmore, 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid will get you close to the festivities.
Muni service note: Expect heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the area as well as possible delays to service routes due to increased ridership.
Sunday Streets: Bayview/Dogpatch
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Third Street between 22nd Street and Donner Avenue
The second event in the 2017 Sunday Streets series takes place along the 3rd Street corridor in the Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods. Enjoy car-free activities for the whole family including live music, DJs, games and much more.
How to Get There on Muni: The T Third Line and the 19 Polk, 23 Monterey, 24 Divisadero, 29 Sunset, 44 O’Shaughnessy, 48 Van Ness-Mission and 54 Felton routes will take you to the Sunday Streets event area along 3rd Street.
Muni service note: The 24 Divisadero, 48 Van Ness-Mission and 54 Felton will be rerouted during the event. Service delays may be possible due to more riders.
On Tap for next weekend: The Cherry Blossom Parade, Tax March and an SF Giants game.
CPMC Construction Street Closure Alert
As part of the ongoing construction of the new CPMC Van Ness Campus Hospital, Post Street, between Franklin Street and Van Ness Avenue, will be closed to vehicle traffic from midnight this Thursday until the early morning of Monday, April 10. View the map for detour options.
Van Ness Construction Reminder
All left turn lanes on Van Ness Avenue have been removed with the exceptions of those at Broadway (southbound), Lombard Street (northbound), and temporarily at Hayes Street (northbound).
Van Ness traffic lanes have been reduced from three to two on these segments:
- Northbound from Post to Filbert Street
- Southbound from Filbert to Washington Street

Temporary J Church and K Ingleside Service Changes Reminder:
Due to Balboa Park Station Area and Plaza Improvement construction work, temporary stop changes are in effect for the J Church and K Ingleside lines at Balboa Park Station through the end of April. For details, please visit sfmta.com/greenlightrail.
