Friday, June 23, 2017

San Francisco City Hall viewed from Van Ness Avenue, with cars and a Muni trolley bus on the street.

This is a basic recap of items voted on and discussed by the SFMTA Board of Directors at its most recent meeting. SFMTA board meetings are usually held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, and agendas are posted on the board’s webpage under “meetings” 72 hours in advance.

This list only includes items featured on the “Regular Calendar” section of the board agenda. See the full agenda for presentation materials and the rest of the items, which include routine board business, general public comment and “Consent Calendar” items, which are scheduled for a single vote without discussion.

You can also watch a video of this meeting and past SFMTA board meetings on SFGovTV.

Item 11: Shared Electric Moped Parking Permit Program

Amending Transportation Code, Division II to create new definitions for a Shared Electric Moped Organization, Shared Electric Moped, and Shared Electric Moped Parking Permit program and establish permit fees and permit program requirements.

The board approved a new Shared Electric Moped Parking Permit program, which will mainly allow shared e-mopeds to continue to be parked on streets with Residential Parking Permit (RPP) restrictions. The board voted to lift an originally proposed restriction that would have limited shared e-mopeds to park only at curbside parking spaces that are 8 feet wide or less in RPP areas.

Item 12: Potrero Avenue Streetscape Project Adjustments

Making environmental findings and approving various parking and traffic modifications as part of the Potrero Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project.

The board unanimously approved an adjustment to the Potrero Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project, which they first approved in 2014. The project, which is currently under construction, includes a landscaped median, wider sidewalks, a transit-only lane and other safety measures including bike lanes, curb extensions and “daylighting” for better visibility at corners.

The board reaffirmed its support of the project by approving additional parking removal that was erroneously omitted from the text approved in 2014. In addition, the board decided to consider changes on the west side of Potrero, on the block between 21st and 22nd streets, at a later date to allow for additional follow-up with the community and the SF Fire Department.

Item 13: Van Ness Improvement Project Update

Presentation, discussion and possible action regarding the Van Ness Improvement Project.

SFMTA staff presented an update (PDF) on the construction of the Van Ness Improvement Project, which broke ground this spring to revitalize Van Ness with safety upgrades and San Francisco’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) route. Most of the construction is due to be completed by the end of 2019, with BRT service to begin in 2020.

Item 14: Report on Transportation Network (Ride-Hailing) Companies
