Hyde Street Quick-Build - November 07, 2023, Construction Update

Route(s) Affected

The Hyde Street Quick-Build Project is under construction!

Improvements will include a non-colorized transit only lane from Eddy to McAllister, road diet from Geary to Eddy, intersection safety improvements at Eddy and Ellis, and color curb changes to help improve loading and deter double parking.

Completed as of 11/07:

Our paint crew successfully completed cat-tracking on Hyde between Geary and McAllister Streets. Cat-tracking is a process in which our paint crew lays out black spray-paint to indicate where the new striping will be painted.

Huge shout out to Code Tenderloin Ambassadors, Steven, Chuck, Lyon, and Terril. Code TL has been integral to informing the public on these street changes and supporting our shops. Thank you, Code TL!

Upcoming work:

Due to the large amount of work being asked of city staff during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in mid-November, construction will start up again during the week of November 20.

Upcoming work will include grinding out existing lane lines and painting new striping, adding new signage and flex posts, and parking and meter work. This work will include temporary tow-away signage on the west side of Hyde between Eddy and Golden Gate in order to provide adequate space for staff to paint new lane lines. Tow-away signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of this work beginning. Outreach staff will also plan to canvass along the affected areas to notify the public ahead of time.

Construction is still anticipated to be completed by end of November 2023. Please note that this timeline may change due to staff capacity, material purchasing issues, and weather.

What to expect during construction?

  • Construction typically occurs between the hours of 9 am and 12 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Pedestrian pathways and access to driveways and commercial/residential buildings will be maintained at all times. Existing transit stops will also be accessible during construction.
  • At times, there may be temporary lane closures as crews perform work (i.e., removing and adding roadway and curb color paint, installing plastic safe-hit posts and signs), resulting in possible travel delays. Please incorporate extra travel time to your trips during construction.
  • Traffic will be routed around construction activity as necessary but will not be detoured.
