Tuesday, May 6, 2014

For the 14th consecutive year, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) will offer free rides on New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 through 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

“We wish all San Francisco’s residents and visitors a happy and safe New Year. And to kick it off right, Muni is offering an opportunity to take Muni safely around the city and back home for free on New Year’s Eve,” said Ed Reiskin, SFMTA Director of Transportation.

This year’s Ride Muni Free New Year’s Eve is co-sponsored by 76 and Comcast Spotlight.

“We couldn’t be happier to support the Ride Muni New Year’s Eve program again this year. 76 strives to always be on the driver’s side and sometimes that means giving drivers the opportunity to be passengers. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season,” said Jamie Allison, 76 Brand Director.

“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to celebrate responsibly by letting Muni chauffer you around The City, wherever your plans take you!” said Ingrid Nelson, Regional Vice President of Comcast Spotlight.

Ride Muni Free New Year’s Eve includes all Muni routes and lines—including cable cars and all information is posted on www.sfmta.com/nye. Clipper Card customers, should NOT tap their cards to make sure they don’t get charged. Fare gates will be set for fare-free that night.

At midnight, there will be a city-sponsored fireworks show from a barge off of The Embarcadero, south of the Ferry Building. Motorists should anticipate delays in the area from approximately 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. No closures or re-routes are planned. SFPD and SFMTA will monitor for any necessary re-routes.
