Today, Ed Reiskin, Director of Transportation for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees all transportation in the city, issued the following statement regarding Bike and Roll to School Week. This week, thousands of families at over 60 San Francisco schools celebrated the 6th annual Bike & Roll to School Week by traveling the city’s streets by bike, scooters, foot and more.

“We’re partnering with city’s schools and families to improve safety, convenience and accessibility for students who need to get to and from school on a daily basis,” said Ed Reiskin, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “By building safer streets and leading safety education efforts, we support the growing number of San Francisco parents and children, who are using their bikes, feet, Muni and other sustainable modes of transportation as a way to get around town.”

Bike to School Week is organized by the San Francisco Safe Routes to School program, which offers programs, education and encouragement to get more kids walking and biking to school. Safe Routes has programs in 15 San Francisco public elementary schools, with program partners including the SFMTA, SF Department of the Environment, San Francisco Unified School District, Presidio YMCA Bike Program, San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Walk San Francisco.
