L Taraval Improvement Project

Segment B Update – May 20 - June 1, 2024

The most disruptive work has been mostly completed. Work to replace sewer, water, rail lines and streetbase has been completed. Construction continues installing boarding islands with accessible curb ramps, handrails and pavers.

Work to replace the Overhead Contact System (OCS) that powers the trains is complete. Beginning on May 31, the OCS lines will be re-energized to accommodate testing of the trains. To ensure the safety of the public, any contractors that are planning any work within 10 feet of the overhead wires, a permit is required. Please reach out to the project team with any questions.  LTaravalProject@SFMTA.com or 415.646.2379

Curve track replacement work at 46th Avenue started on May 6 and is expected to take four to six weeks to complete.

Curb-to-curb repaving of the entire Taraval corridor started on May 6 and is expected to be completed by May 29, 2024. The paving work has been divided into three segments. The sequence for each segment will start with one full day to grind and repaving will be performed three blocks at a time as follows:

  • Segment 1, Ulloa Street, 15th Avenue and Taraval Street 15th to 19th avenues: Completed
  • Segment 2, 19th to 28th avenues: Completed

    • 28th to 31st avenues
    • 31st to 33rd avenues
    • 33rd to 37th avenues

During this work, parking will be removed on both sides of the street and traffic detoured around the area. Area residents and merchants have received notifications with details. We are working with the contractor to ensure that parking is released back to the public when work isn’t necessary for construction.

General construction hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Construction schedules are subject to change. “No Parking” signs will be posted in construction and staging areas. Construction teams may be excavating and jackhammering pavement, which may cause vibrations. Dust control and housekeeping measures are in place at active construction and staging locations.
