N Judah Transit & Safety Project

Project Introduction

The N Judah is one of Muni’s busiest and most essential light rail lines. It carries tens of thousands of riders each day. It connects Ocean Beach and the Outer Sunset to the Inner Sunset. It goes through Cole Valley and continues past Duboce Triangle. Then it heads into downtown, and on to Mission Bay and the Caltrain terminal. The N Judah links some of San Francisco’s most vibrant residential, cultural and employment centers. The N Judah keeps our city moving.

As ridership continues to grow, now is the time to invest in the future of this vital corridor.

The N Judah Transit & Safety Project will deliver community-informed upgrades along the on-street segment between Church and Duboce and Ocean Beach. This work builds on lessons learned from previous Muni Forward projects to make the N Judah faster, more reliable and safer for everyone.

Current Challenges
The N Judah faces:

  • Crowding during peak hours
  • Closely spaced stops that slow travel
  • Frequent stop signs and traffic signals that delay service
  • Stops that lack accessibility features such as boarding islands or wheelchair platforms

Project Goals
This project aims to:

  • Deliver faster, more reliable service
  • Enhance safety and accessibility for all riders
  • Support growing ridership with higher-capacity service

Community Engagement

Every neighborhood along the N Judah corridor is unique. That’s why this project starts with listening. We’re asking riders, neighbors and local businesses to share their experiences, what’s working well and what could be improved. Your feedback will shape the draft plan we’ll share in the coming year.
