L Taraval Improvement Project Work Forecast March 29 to April 9, 2021

• Update on Taraval Street repaving: Grinding and paving have been successfully completed on the south side of Taraval Street and part of the north side. On March 29 and 30, crews will finish the last stretch between 41st and 46th avenues on north side of Taraval.

During construction, temporary street closures and parking restrictions will apply where the work is occurring.

After the street paving is done, the L Taraval bus will resume the regular service on Taraval Street. Until then, the L Bus will continue to be rerouted onto Ulloa Street in both directions between 35th and 46th avenues. The alternate bus stops located on Ulloa Street are parallel to the stops on Taraval Street at:

  • 40th Avenue
  • Sunset Boulevard
     
• Additional train testing is planned for:
  
  • April 1 along Taraval and around Zoo Loop during the day
     
• Landscaping and planting trees are planned for:
  
  • April 1-9 along Taraval Street, north side first and then south side
     
• Construction of boarding island is planned for:
  
  • March 30-April 2 between 41st and 42nd avenues to construct pavers
  • April 5-9 between 41st and 42nd avenues to construct pavers
  • April 9 between 39th and 40th avenues, north side
     
• Construction of accessible boarding platform is planned for:
  
  • March 29-31 between Sunset Blvd. and 40th Ave. to construct art panels
  • April 8-9 at 37th Ave. to install signals
  • March 29-April 9 between 41st and 43rd avenues to install guardrails
  • March 29-April 2 between 40th and 42nd avenues to construct art panels
     
• Track replacement work is planned for: 
  
  • April 5-9 between 46th and 48th to install track pavement
     
• Fine tuning of overhead wire system is planned for:
  
  • March 28-31 and April 4-5 on Taraval and Zoo Loop
  • March 28-31 at 47th Avenue to construct single crossover (night work)

Excavation requires jackhammering of the pavement. Dust control measures will be in place to prevent dust kick up from the work.

Heavy vibrations from the shoring and sheet piling work is expected for open trench work.

• Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday to Sunday 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Hours subject to change based on construction needs. 

Some parking will be temporarily restricted in construction zones and traffic lanes will be modified during active work.

For track replacement work, traffic will be detoured at the intersections of 43rd and 42th Avenue at all times of the day until track replacement work along these segments are complete. During active construction hours, parking on both sides of the blocks will be temporarily restricted to give the crew the safety clearance they need to demo and replace the aged tracks in the center of the road and allow eastbound/westbound vehicular traffic. Parking will be returned at the end of each work day along the impacted blocks.  

Since Monday, March 8 until street repaviang is done,  the L Bus has rerouted from Taraval Street between Sunset Boulevard and 46th Avenue. The following temporary bus stop changes are currently in effect during service hours:

• Inbound stop at Taraval and 46th Avenue to Ulloa Street and 46h Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 44th Avenue to Ulloa Street and 44th Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 42nd Avenue to Ulloa Street and 42nd Avenue
• Inbound stop at Taraval and 40th Avenue to 39th Avenue and Taraval Street
• Inbound stop at Taraval and Sunset Belouvard to Ulloa Street and Sunset Belouvard
• Outbound stop at Taraval and Sunset Belouvard to Ulloa Street and Sunset Belouvard
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 40th Avenue to 40th Avenue and Taraval
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 42nd Avenue to Ulloa Street and 42nd Avenue
• Outbound stop at Taraval and 44th Avenue to Ulloa and 44th Avenue
• Outbound stop at 46th Avenue and Ulloa to Ulloa and 46th Avenue
