Residents in the Northeast Mission are eligible for Residential Permit Parking (RPP). Having a residential permit means you do not need to move your vehicle when RPP time limits and "Pay or Permit" are posted on the sign. Always check the signs when you park.
Here are some examples of the signage:
2-Hour Parking Time Limit with RPP Area S Exemption. This means that drivers without an RPP Area S permit must leave the parking space after 2 hours. However, Area S permit holders are not required to vacate the space after this time.
Pay or Permit Parking Sign with RPP Area HV Exemption. This indicates that drivers without an RPP Area HV permit must pay at the meter, while Area HV permit holders do not have to pay.
There are three types of parking regulation tools that can improve parking turnover and availability:
-
Time limits with RPP
2-hour RPP: enforced Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM (green markings on the proposal)
- Residents with a permit are exempt from the time limit, meaning they do not need to move after 2 hours and may park all day.
- Visitors without a permit must move after 2 hours, Monday to Friday from 8 am-6 pm.
4-hour RPP: enforced Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM (yellow markings on the proposal)
- Residents with a permit are exempt from the time limit meaning they do not need to move after 4 hours, they may park all day.
- Visitors without a permit must move after 4 hours, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
-
Pay or RPP Permit: enforced Monday to Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM (pink markings on the proposal)
In 2018, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) added Pay or Permit Parking as a new regulation type to the longstanding RPP program to better serve residents of and visitors to San Francisco’s neighborhoods. Pay or Permit Parking combines the benefits of residential parking restrictions with the benefits of paid parking: making it easier for residents and visitors to park on blocks in high-density, high-demand residential areas near major attractions, while preserving the residential permit system and generating revenue to support transit service.
- Residents with a permit are exempt from payment, meaning they may park all day without paying for the meter/pay station.
- Visitors without a permit must pay for parking at the pay station, online or by phone, Monday-Saturday from 8 am-6 pm.
- Paid parking (blue markings on the proposal)
- New meters/paystations would start at $0.50/hour, then increase to $1.00/hour six months after implementation.
- Enforced Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
- No time limit, drivers can pay to park all day with the exception of a few blocks.
Additional Parking Regulations
- Free, 4-hour time limits without RPP (orange markings on the proposal)
- Everyone must move vehicle after 4 hours.
- Enforced Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM.
