This Weekend: Carnaval in the Mission

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

There will be no shortage of activities to help make this Memorial Day weekend one to remember. In addition to Carnaval in the Mission, you can enjoy the San Francisco International Arts Festival, catch some SF Giants baseball or visit the monthly Treasure Island Flea.

Carnaval Festival and Parade

Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Mission District

This weekend’s Carnaval Festival and Parade will bring live music, drumming, dancing, global cuisine and more to Harrison Street between 16th and 24th streets in the Mission. Carnaval San Francisco is a 39-year-old Memorial Day weekend tradition that celebrates Latin American and Caribbean cultures. This year’s theme, El Corazón de San Pancho (The Heart of San Francisco), is an acknowledgement of the city’s welcoming heart  for people from around the world.

On Sunday, the grand parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at 24th and Bryant streets, proceed down 24th Street to Mission Street, then turn north towards 17th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.

How to Get There on Muni: The 9 San Bruno, 12 Folsom-Pacific, 14 Mission/14R Mission Rapid, 22 Fillmore, 27 Bryant, 33 Ashbury/18th St., 48 Quintara/24th Street, 49 Van Ness/Mission, 55 16th Street and 67 Bernal Heights routes will take you close to the festival.

Muni Service Note: The 12, 14/14R, 27, 33, 48, 49 and 67 will see reroutes and possible delays. The 9, 22 and 55 routes may see increased ridership and delays.

Reminder: J Church Stop Changes at Balboa Park

Due to construction for the Balboa Park Station Area and Plaza Improvement Project, the J Church Line will continue to serve alternate stops on San Jose Avenue until the fall.

For details, please visit our Green Light Rail Center Track Replacement Project page.

Van Ness Construction Reminder

All left turn lanes on Van Ness Avenue have been removed with the exceptions of those at Broadway (southbound), Lombard Street (northbound) and temporarily at Hayes Street (northbound).

Van Ness traffic lanes have been reduced from three to two on these segments:

  • Northbound from Post to Filbert Street
  • Southbound from Filbert to Washington Street

For complete details on these changes, please visit our Van Ness Improvement Project page.
