What do you do on the project?

I oversee the Next Generation CIS project.

How do you feel your work impacts our customers?

Real time information is one of the most important things we can provide our customers so they know when to head to their Muni stop, figure out when they’ll arrive at their destination and whether there may be delays impacting their travel. Waiting for a vehicle and not knowing when it will come is one of the most challenging parts of riding public transit. But reliable real-time information lets customers plan their trips with more confidence. The new MuniMobile app we’re developing will allow customers to share their feedback in real time as well so we can keep improving.

What was your favorite part of the project?

When we first started the project, we did a lot of public outreach to learn how real time information can improve customers’ travel experience. This shaped the project and made clear the importance of investing in this work. It’s good to know that we are improving the quality of our transit system in ways that our residents and visitors will see and use and hopefully make them want to take Muni more often!

What do you like most about working at the SFMTA?

The work we do impacts hundreds of thousands of people daily. It is essential to the economic vitality of the city and allows people to get to work, school, go shopping, dine, recreate and do many other activities in a sustainable way. The improvements we make here in San Francisco can also serve as examples to other transit agencies around the country and even abroad, just as we learn from others’ success. This helps make transit better everywhere.
