San Francisco Marathon

Sunday, 5:30 a.m. start time
Embarcadero

It's summertime in the city and that means it is time for the annual San Francisco Marathon. Over 27,500 runners are expected to line up this Sunday morning along the Embarcadero as the sun begins breaking through the fog, just the beginning of a 26.2 mile jog around the city. Beginning at Mission and The Embarcadero, the race will proceed along the waterfront north toward Fisherman's Wharf before turning west through Fort Mason and the Marina. The race will then take participants across the Golden Gate Bridge, then back again as they head south through the Presidio on their way to Golden Gate Park. After traversing the Park, runners will pass through the Haight before making a turn into the Mission, then heading east into Potrero Hill. The final leg of the race puts runners back along the waterfront, around AT&T Park before culminating on The Embarcadero at Folsom Street.

The top three overall men and women in the full marathon will receive a plaque and winners medal, while the top three females and top three males in each age group will be awarded a personalized plaque. The day will also feature two half-marathons,-- one beginning on The Embarcadero and the other kicking off in Golden Gate Park -- and a 5K beginning at 7:45AM on The Embarcadero.
