The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for this holiday week from Thursday, June 13 through Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Muni Service on Juneteenth Holiday
On Wednesday, June 19 (Juneteenth Holiday), Muni will operate on a Sunday service schedule.
Parking Enforcement on Juneteenth Holiday
On Wednesday, June 19 (Juneteenth Holiday Observed), parking meters (all meters including color capped), white zones, nightly street sweeping (street cleaning) and safety violations (no stopping, no parking, red and blue zones) will be enforced.
Other SFMTA parking programs will not be enforced:
- Residential Parking Permits (RPP) Zones
- General Parking Time Limits
- Weekday Daytime Street Sweeping (Street Cleaning)
- Commuter Shuttle Towaway Zones
- Unmetered Yellow and Green Zones
Vehicles creating a hazard and/or an unsafe condition (i.e. double parking, blocking a bike lane, blocking driveways, blocking crosswalks, fire hydrants, etc.) are subject to receiving citations and can possibly be towed.
Note: Parking meters in the city are enforced Monday through Saturday with exception of the following areas where parking meters are enforced seven days per week throughout the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day:
- Parking meters in the Fisherman’s Wharf area
- On and near The Embarcadero roadway
- In the Special Event Area around AT&T Park
- Five metered off-street parking facilities listed below:
- 8th Avenue at Clement Street
- 9th Avenue at Clement Street
- Geary Boulevard at 21st Avenue
- 18th Avenue at Geary Boulevard
- Pierce Street Garage (between Lombard and Chestnut streets)
Chinatown Night Market
Friday, June 14: The monthly night market will take place in Chinatown. This is an event that takes place on the second Friday of each month, from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
The following street closures will be required from 3 to 10 p.m., Friday:
- Grant Avenue between Sacramento and Jackson streets
- Commercial Street between Kearny Street and Grant Avenue
- Intersection: Grant Avenue and Commercial Street
All other intersections will remain open.
There will be no impact on Muni service.
Sikh Festival
Saturday, June 15: The Sikh Festival will be held in Civic Center Plaza.
There will be a street closure of Grove Street between Polk and Larkin streets from 10 p.m., Friday, June 14 to 10 p.m., Saturday 15 for the festival.
There will be no impact on Muni service.
Juneteenth Freedom Celebration
Saturday, June 15: The annual Western Addition Juneteenth celebration will take place on Fillmore Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For additional information visit https://juneteenth-sf.org.
The following street closure will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Saturday:
- Fillmore Street between Geary Boulevard and Fulton Street
- O’Farrell Street between Fillmore and Steiner streets
- Golden Gate Avenue between Steiner and Webster streets
- Eddy Street between Steiner and Webster streets
- Turk Street between Steiner and Webster streets
- McAllister Street between Steiner and Webster streets
- Fulton Street between Fillmore and Laguna streets
- Closed intersections: Fillmore Street at O’Farrell Street, Golden Gate Avenue, Eddy, Turk, McAllister, and Fulton streets
The 22 Fillmore Muni route will be impacted.
North Beach Festival
Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16: The 68th annual North Beach Festival will take place in the North Beach District. Event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., each day. For more details, visit northbeachfestival.org.
The following street closures will be required from 1 a.m., Saturday, June 15 to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, June 16:
- Columbus Avenue between Broadway and Green Street
- Grant Avenue between Columbus Avenue and Filbert Street
- Stockton between Columbus Avenue and Filbert Street
- Green Street between Grant and Columbus avenues
- Vallejo Street between Margrave Place and Stockton Street
- Intersections: Vallejo and Green streets at Grant Avenue, Grant Avenue at Columbus Avenue
The 8 Bayshore, 39 Coit, 45 Union/Stockton Muni routes will be affected.
Juneteenth Bayview Father’s Day Festival
Sunday, June 16: The annual Juneteenth celebration will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at Gilman Park. For additional details, visit www.sf-juneteenth.com.
The following street closures will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
- Gilman Avenue between Bill Walsh Way and Hawes Street
- Bill Walsh Way between Gilman and Ingerson avenues
- Ingerson Avenue between Bill Walsh Way and Gilroy Street
The 29 Sunset Muni route will be rerouted.
San Francisco Giants Baseball Games
Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16: The San Francisco Giants will play three home games at the ballpark. Listed below are start times for these games:
- Three games against the Los Angeles Angels: 1) 7:15 p.m., Friday, June 14; 2) 1:05 p.m., Saturday, June 15 and 3) 1:05 p.m., Sunday, June 16.
Street Closures
To accommodate events that will take place at the ballpark, the following street closures will be enforced:
- Two and a half hours before the opening pitch, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic. King Street will reopen after first pitch until the seventh inning.
- From the seventh inning until post-game traffic dies down, the SFMTA will again close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic in order to reduce congestion on city streets.
- Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street Bridge (Peter R. Maloney Bridge) will be closed to all traffic except Muni, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period.
Taxi Stands
- 2nd Street, west side, between Brannan and King Streets
- 2nd Street, east side, between Townsend and King Streets
- 3rd Street, west side, north of King Street
Special Event Parking Rates
During baseball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the ballpark, parking meters close to the ballpark will charge a special event rate of $10 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the ballpark, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES
UPDATE: L Taraval Improvement Project—Segment B
The L Taraval Improvement Project is a multi-agency collaboration to improve safety, accessibility, and transit reliability, and to rehabilitate aging rails, utility lines and roadway pavement along the L Taraval line between Sunset Boulevard and 15th Avenue and on Ulloa Street near West Portal.
The most disruptive work is nearly complete. Work to replace sewer, water, rail lines, streetbase and repaving the entire corridor has been completed. Construction continues with installing boarding islands with accessible curb ramps, handrails, pavers and landscaping. Curve track replacement work at 46th Avenue has been completed. The remaining work includes testing trains along the new trackway, installing boarding islands, landscaping, trees and artwork.
Work to replace the Overhead Contact System (OCS) that powers the trains is complete. Beginning on Friday, May 31, workers are preparing the area for re-energizing overhead lines, ground conduits and infrastructure to accommodate testing of the trains. People who are driving or working in the area should stay alert while working on preparing and initiating preliminary train testing.

Mock test train for OCS adjustments is expected to start towards the end of June.
Taraval Street
- 15th Avenue: Preparation for planting, tree and stump removal
- 17th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 28th and 30th avenues: Traffic signal installation, boarding islands prepare and paint railings, and crosswalk striping
- 21st to 22nd avenues; 22nd to 24th avenues; and 35th to 36th avenues: Boarding island pavers
- 46th Avenue Track Work: Paving
Nighttime work is scheduled from Sunday through Friday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sundays through Fridays
- Ulloa Street between 15th and Forest Side avenues and Taraval Street between 15th and 36th avenues: Upgrade the Overhead Contact System (OCS). Work is expected to be completed in June 2024.
The L Bus now runs between West Portal and the SF Zoo. Customers can transfer to a train at West Portal Station to travel downtown. An interactive bus reroute map with temporary bus stop relocations citywide during construction can be found on Interactive Bus Reroute.
During construction, the L Taraval bus stops are being relocated. The inbound bus stop at Taraval Street and 15th Avenue has been relocated across the intersection until fall 2024.
The following L Taraval bus stops are being relocated temporarily during construction:

UPCOMING
Twin Peaks Closure for Tunnel Upgrades
Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23: Twin Peaks Tunnel will be closed for tunnel repairs. Train service for the K Ingleside and M Ocean View lines will be replaced by bus shuttles. J Church, N Judah and T Third trains will not be affected.
During the closure:
- West Portal and Forest Hill stations will be closed all day. Please use K, L or M bus shuttle substitutions on the surface.
- M Buses and K Buses will run between Balboa Park and Church, including stops at West Portal, Forest Hill, Castro and Church.
- L Buses will be extended to run between SF Zoo and Church, including stops at West Portal, Forest Hill, Castro and Church.
- S Shuttle trains will run extra service between Castro and Embarcadero stations, serving all stations in between.
- J, N and T trains will run as usual. Transfer between underground Muni Metro trains and K, L and M buses at Church or Castro.

Masks Recommended
Masks are no longer required, but are encouraged in any SFMTA facilities, transit hubs or on vehicles including Muni buses, streetcars, light rail vehicles or cable cars or in taxis or on paratransit.
ONGOING: Essential Trip Card Discount Program
The SFMTA’s program, Essential Trip Card (ETC) Program, assists people with disabilities and older adults to make essential trips using taxis. The program provides two to three round trips at an 80% discount per month, i.e. rider pays $6 to receive a value of $30 or pays $12 to receive a $60 value. If essential needs require it, riders may receive additional value up to $120 of taxi service per month.
To qualify for the program, customer must be either age 65 or older or an adult with disabilities. Eligible adults may apply for the ETC program by calling the Paratransit Mobility Management office at 415-351-7053.
