Parking Enforcement for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
On Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025 and New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, The following parking regulations will not be enforced anywhere in the city: parking meters, seven-day street sweeping, residential parking permits, Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping and commuter towaway.
Parking meters (all meters, regardless of cap color), passenger loading (white) and general loading zones, nightly street sweeping (street cleaning) and safety violations (no stopping, no parking, red and blue zones) will be enforced citywide. Residential parking permits, general parking time limits, Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping, unmetered yellow and green zones and commuter towaway will not be enforced.
Vehicles creating a hazard and/or an unsafe condition (i.e. double parking, blocking a bike lane, blocking driveways, blocking crosswalks, fire hydrants, etc.) are subject to receiving citations and can possibly be towed.
Parking meters in the City are enforced Monday through Saturday with exception of the following areas where parking meters are enforced seven days per week throughout the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day:
- Parking meters in the Fisherman’s Wharf area
- Along The Embarcadero
- In the Special Event Area around AT&T Park
- Four metered off-street parking facilities listed below:
- 8th Avenue at Clement Street
- 9th Avenue at Clement Street
- Geary Boulevard at 21st Avenue
- 18th Avenue at Geary Boulevard
Some parking garages (notably Pierce Street Garage between Lombard and Chestnut streets) are paid parking 24/7 including all holidays.
Muni Schedule for Christmas and New Year’s Day
On Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, Muni will operate on a Sunday schedule.
On New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, Muni will operate on a Sunday schedule.
Winter Walk SF
Saturday, Dec. 13 through Wednesday, Dec. 24: Winter Walk, San Francisco’s signature holiday event returns to Union Square area for a 12-day celebration that transforms two blocks of Stockton Street into a festive holiday destination.
This event features elaborate holiday decor, captivating performances, programmed snow, and seasonal offerings of food, drink, activities and shops. For more details about Winter Walk SF, visit visitunionsquaresf.com. Below are event hours during the celebration:
- Monday to Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Thursday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 9 through Saturday, Dec. 27: A street closure of Stockton Street between Post and O’Farrell streets is required from 4 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9 and continuing through 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 27.
The following Muni routes are affected: 8 Bayshore; 8AX Bayshore A Express; 8BX Bayshore B Express; 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express; 30 Stockton; 45 Union/Stockton; 91 3rd Street/19th Avenue Owl; and T Third Street Bus.
Event at Chase Center
Friday, Dec. 19 to Thursday, Dec. 25: There will be ball games to take place at the Chase Center:
- Friday, Dec. 19: Performance by Kelly Chen will take place. Show will begin at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 20: The Warriors will host a home game against the Phoenix Suns. Game will begin at 5:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 21: Chase Center will host its second annual Invisalign Bay Area Women’s Classic. The women’s college basketball doubleheader will feature Stanford University facing the University of Oregon, followed by California (Cal) taking on the University of Southern California (USC). Both games will be televised by ESPN, with Stanford and Oregon tipping off at 3 p.m. PST and CAL and USC beginning at 5:30 p.m. PST. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 25: The Warriors will host a home game against the Dallas Mavericks. Game will begin at 2 p.m. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.
Muni will provide supplement 78X Arena Express service:
- Pre-event express shuttle service from 16th Street BART Station to Chase Center will start two and a half hours before each game/event and will end one hour after game/event starts.
- Post-event express shuttle service from Chase Center on 16th Street to 16th Street BART Station will run until the clears.
Special Event Parking Rates
During basketball games and other area major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the arena, parking meters close to the arena will charge a special event rate of $12 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the arena, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. Start times for special event rates vary based on the start time of the event. More information on special event parking regulations can be found on www.sfmta.com/special-event-parking.
Street Closures
To accommodate events that will take place at the arena, the following street closures will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way will also be closed approximately 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after the event.
Only local access will be allowed on Northbound Illinois Street between Mariposa and 16th streets.
No Parking Zone
To facilitate loading and pick up for Muni customers and patrons, NO PARKING will be in effect at these locations during events:
- 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
- Between the 500 and 700 blocks of Terry Francois Boulevard (TFB)
Taxi Stands
There is one taxi stand located on southbound Terry Francois Boulevard.
Ramp Taxis should use the loading zone on eastbound Warriors Way at Bridgeview Way.
Other pickup/drop-off locations near Chase Center
- 4th Street, which connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.
- Owens Street, which also connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.

Noe Valley Night Market
Tuesday, Dec. 23: The Noe Valley Night Market will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place on 24th Street. between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets. For event details visit noemerchants.com.
A closure of 24th Street. between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets will be required from 2 to 10 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23. All intersections will remain open.
The 48 Quintara/24th Street Muni route will be impacted.
New Year’s Eve at Pier 80 Warehouse

Pedestrian and auto traffic in and around the event area should be expected, travelers should plan for extra commute time.
New Year’s Eve: Fireworks, Extra Muni Service and Ride Muni Free
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, there will be various celebrations of the New Year hosted throughout San Francisco City. Crowds are expected in the Castro, North Beach, Cow Hollow, and South of Market areas. A free, City-sponsored event with fireworks will occur on The Embarcadero south of the Ferry Building, near Pier 14. Fireworks will take place at midnight and will last for about 15 minutes. Event goers are strongly encouraged to take public transit to their destinations. All Muni Transit Service will be free starting at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, Muni will operate additional service:
- The Muni Metro Subway and the Central Subway will stay open late until 2 a.m.
- Additional bus service will be running on most evening OWL routes and along the westbound M Line.
- The Market Street Subway will have S Shuttle train service until 2 a.m. between West Portal and 4th/King stations. Customers traveling westbound on Lines J, K, L, M and N will transfer to bus service via Church Street and/or West Portal Station.
- The Central Subway will have S Shuttle train service until 2 a.m. between Chinatown and Third/Mariposa.
- OWL Bus service will operate every 15 to 30 minutes from midnight until 2 a.m.
- M Oceanview will have westbound M Bus service from West Portal to Balboa Park BART Station between midnight and 2 a.m.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES
NEW: Caltrans Work—0Q0204 (Central Bayshore Contract)
The Bridge Rehabilitation of the Central (US-101) and Bayshore (1-80) Viaducts is a vital project to strengthen and rehabilitate the viaducts which are 71-years old.
To facilitate this project, the following ramp closures are scheduled from Sunday, Dec. 21 to Tuesday, Dec. 23:
- Southbound US101 at eastbound 10th Street/northbound Bryant Street on ramp will be closed overnight from 10 p.m., Sunday Dec. 21, to 6 a.m., Monday Dec. 22
- Southbound US101 at eastbound 10th Street/northbound Bryant Street on ramp will be closed overnight from 10 p.m., Monday Dec. 22 to 6 a.m., Tuesday Dec. 23

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-4K1104 (19th Avenue)
Caltrans contractor is currently working on Phase 1 (Concrete Parking Strip Work). Northbound parking strip work completed on Monday, Dec. 16 and the contractor started the southbound parking strip work on the same day. One southbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, from Monday to Friday when contractor is working. Caltrans contractor will maintain two lanes of traffic open during working hours and work will affect four blocks at a time. Parking strip work is anticipated to be completed in Jan 2026. Once complete, the contractor will demobilize and will not return until May/June 2026 to perform paving work.

This construction project will be closing on and off-ramps to restripe US 101 ahead of storm drainage improvements scope of this project.

ONGOING
ONGOING: Sewer Replacement and Street Reconstruction in the Wharf Area
Now through mid December: As part of this work, bus stops will be relocated and some bus lines will be rerouted. The work area is Powell Street between Jefferson and North Point streets, and, on North Point Street between Mason and Powell streets. The following Muni routes will be impacted by the construction work:
- The 28 19th Avenue will be affected
- The 39 Coit: Some stops will be relocated
ONGOING: SFPUC Geary Boulevard Sewer and Water Replacements
Now until 2027: Replacement work of sewer and water lines is currently taking place along Geary Boulevard between 32nd Avenue and Stanyan Street. Due to construction work at multiple locations, some of the bus stops for Muni routes 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid will be temporarily relocated nearby. Riders should look for orange signage at impacted bus stops.
