The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for the week, from Thursday, Jan. 22 through Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026.

Walk for Life

Saturday, Jan. 24: The Walk for Life West Coast will hold its annual rally and march. The march will start at 1:30 p.m. from Civic Center Plaza heading down Market Street and ending at Embarcadero Plaza. The march may not completely clear off Market Street until 6 p.m. For event details, visit http://www.walkforlifewc.com/event-info/event-schedule/.

During the march, cross traffic on Market Street between gaps in marchers will not be allowed. There may be temporary detours on Mission Street between South Van Ness and Steuart Street. Muni routes that travel on Market Street will run on Mission Street during the march.

The following Muni lines and routes will be affected: F Market & Wharves; 1 California; 2 Clement; 5 Fulton; 6 Hayes-Parnassus; 7 Haight-Noriega; 8 Bayshore; 9 San Bruno; 12 Folsom-Pacific; 14 Mission; 14R Mission Rapid; 15 Bayview-Hunters Point Express; 19 Polk; 27 Bryant; 30 Stockton; 31 Balboa; 38 Geary; 38R Geary Rapid and 45 Union-Stockton.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-4K1104 (19th Avenue)

Phase 1 (Concrete Parking Strip Work) was completed. Inspection and some electrical work will be conducted over the next three weeks. Once complete, the contractor will demobilize and will return until May/June 2026 to perform paving work.

Caltrans contractors will deploy traffic control and message boards in advance of the closures. For more information visit the 19th Avenue Paving and Rehabilitation | Caltrans website.

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-1Q802 US101 (Hospital Curve)

This construction project will be closing on and off-ramps to restripe US-101 ahead of storm drainage improvements scope of this project.

Caltrans has not provided the SFMTA with information about planned closures for this project for the week, from Jan. 19 to Jan. 24.

UPDATE: Bridge Rehabilitation of Central (US 101) and Bayshore (I-80) Viaducts

The Bridge Rehabilitation of the Central (US-101) and Bayshore (1-80) Viaducts is a vital project to strengthen and rehabilitate the viaducts which are 71-years old. To facilitate the project, ramp closures are scheduled throughout the project.

The following ramp closures are scheduled for the week, from Monday, Jan. 19 to Sunday, Jan. 25:

  • Westbound I-80: At 4th & Harrison streets on ramp will be closed overnight, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day, beginning Thursday Jan. 22 until Friday Jan. 23
  • Westbound I-80: At westbound 8th Street Off Ramp will be closed overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the next day, beginning Thursday Jan. 22 until Friday Jan. 23

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-0X5804 Freeway Ramp Signs and Striping

Caltrans has not provided the SFMTA with information about planned closures for this project for the week, from Jan. 19 to Jan. 24.

ONGOING

ONGOING: SFPUC Geary Boulevard Sewer and Water Replacements

Now until 2027: Replacement work of sewer and water lines is currently taking place along Geary Boulevard between 32nd Avenue and Stanyan Street. Due to construction work at multiple locations, some of the bus stops for Muni routes 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid will be temporarily relocated nearby. Riders should look for orange signage at impacted bus stops.
