Provide a broad range of specialized engineering services to supplement SFMTA staff in implantation of various capital projects on an as-needed basis. Engineering disciplines include but may not be limited to civil, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering as well as track design, construction management support, project management support, independent laboratory testing of material, ultrasonic testing of rails, and various other specialized design services.

 

 

Title: L Taraval Improvement Project Segment B

Description: This is the one of two contracts for the L Taraval Improvement Project.

Replace approximately 23,000 track feet of existing tie and ballast paved track along the L Taraval between Forrest Side Avenue near West Portal to La Playa. Replace worn OCS special work, trolley wire and trolley poles west of 15th Ave. /Taraval St.  This project also includes MUNI Forward implementation of the L-Taraval Rapid Project which will implement engineering changes to improve safety and reliability and reduce travel time between Ulloa/15th and Taraval/46th. Components include removing of transit stops, removing stop signs, adding traffic calming medians, providing traffic signals with transit priority, transit bulbs, pedestrian bulbs, relocating transit stops, adding or modifying boarding islands, adding or modifying accessible platforms, painting transit only lanes, and other related elements such as reconstructing curb ramps and relocating catch basins. Expected outcomes include improved safety, improved travel time and reliability. In coordination with the project SFPUC will replace sewers at various locations along the alignment; SFWD will install two parallel water mains, one on each side of the MUNI Tracks along the L-Taraval Line between Ulloa /14th Avenue and Taraval/36th Avenue. Public Works will be restoring the pavement at locations not covered by the track, sewer, and water replacement scope of work.

Title: 16th Street Improvement Project Segment 2

Description: Design and construct transit priority and pedestrian safety improvements for the 22 Fillmore route along 16th Street between Church Street and Potrero Street, including transit-only lanes, transit bulbs, new traffic signals, and several pedestrian safety upgrades. This project will also have sewer upgrades along 16th street. The project will transform and shape the 16th Street corridor by improving transit reliability, travel time, safety, and accessibility for all users while meeting the needs of current and future residents, workers, and visitors to this growing regional destination.

Title: Woods Facility Rehabilitation (Bus Washer)

Description: This is the one of two contracts for the Woods Facility Rehabilitation Project.

 Replace the drive-through bus wash system at Woods Division. The work will include a wash water reclamation system including a brush bus wash system with top oscillating material scrubbers, high-pressure spray arch and wheel wash, undercarriage wash, tire guides, skid plates, pre-wetting/detergent, high-pressure front and wheel wash components, vertical brush and frame assembly, and final rinse.  Work also includes the installation of electrical infrastructure and charging stations to power nine battery electric vehicles being procured as part of the SFMTA's e-bus Pilot Project. Post installation, these buses will then be evaluated for long-term use in the Muni fleet.

Title: Transbay Traction Power Upgrade

Description: This project is to upgrade the traction power system to support trolley coach service for the new Transbay Transit Center Bus Plaza. The work will consist of the following: provide adequate power for future additional transit lines to use the bus plaza; Equalizes the two D-17 branches so that overcurrent protection can be set to protect cables from annealing while reducing nuisance tripping; Co-mingled cables of different circuits will be re-assigned in separate ducts per code; Improvement to neighboring circuits D-14, D-16 and CC-16 necessary to separating D-17 in shared ducts; Infrastructure for a future tie-in between D-16 and CC-16 Provides a more reliable, robust, and safer operating system for trolley coach lines using the bus plaza as well as the trolley coach lines on lower Mission & Market Streets; Overhead contact system segment insulator modifications to match the new feeder circuit modifications. SFPW’s excavation code required to upgrade about six ADA ramps to current compliance. Also required to do restoration of the pavements where we trenched for the permanent duct bank for the power cable conduits. The project has to comply the Maher Ordinance to dispose hazardous material.
