The 14 Mission and 14R Mission Rapid run along San Francisco’s longest street and Muni’s highest ridership bus corridor. Together they pick up nearly 46,000 passengers every day, from the Ferry Building, through the Mission and Excelsior districts, all the way to Daly City.
Muni Forward improvements have reduced delays and grown ridership on the 14 Mission and 14R Mission Rapid.
- 6.4 miles of new or upgraded transit lanes to get you there faster and more reliably.
- 50 intersections with transit signal priority to keep transit moving
- 7 transit bulbs or islands to make it easier to get on and off at your stop (five built, two under construction)
- 29 pedestrian bulbs or islands to make it easier and safer to get to your stop (two built, 27 under construction)
Travel times up to 31% faster in SoMa (9% median travel time savings for the entire 14 Mission, compared to 2015.) Up to 25% less variable travel times in the Mission following 2016 quick-build implementation.
- Completed
Thanks to improvements made through Muni Forward starting in 2016 and continuing to today, the route is now safer for people walking, more efficient for Muni riders and is getting people where they need to go with greater efficiency.
Transit priority upgrades on Mission Street have improved reliability. These include dedicated bus lanes and context-specific redesigns of the roadway. Improvements at stops and to stop locations were made. Improvements on Mission are also designed to address traffic safety challenges.
Pedestrian collisions are reduced by 59% with the following safety features!
- Intersection "daylighting"
- A lane reduction
- Pedestrian "head start" signals
- Turn restrictions
The corridor designs provide transit lanes on narrow streets. Meanwhile, they maintain parking and loading for businesses.
A series of improvements were made by Muni Forward. These are on Mission Street in SoMa, the Mission and the Excelsior. Work is underway through the Mission/Geneva Safety Project. It features transit lanes, transit signal priority and transit and pedestrian bulbs. The project also includes other enhancements to transit reliability and safety.
