Dive Deep Into Muni History at SF History Days!

Thursday, February 22, 2018

Got a history bug to kick? If so, we've got the cure in store! Next weekend, March 3-4, we'll be joining over 70 other archives, museums, and history organizations for SF History Days 2018- a free, two-day expo of San Francisco history from A to Z.

Taking place Saturday from 11-5 and Sunday from 11-4 at the Old Mint on 5th and Mission Streets, we'll be showing an exhibit exploring the 100-year histories of the K Ingleside Line and Twin Peaks Tunnel.

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the public opening of the Twin Peaks Tunnel with service on the K Ingleside Line. Join us March 3-4 for an exhibit exploring this history!

In February 1918, the SF Municipal Railway opened the K Ingleside Line and Twin Peaks Tunnel to a huge crowd of San Franciscans. Our exhibit takes you back to that day, explores the process of building the tunnel, and dives into the subsequent 100 years of service on the K Line. At History Days, we'll expand upon what we showed at the West Portal Library, so if you missed that or want more, come on down to the Mint!

This year has an incredible lineup of film screenings, lectures, presentations, exhibits, and more from other organizations as well. Both days are fully booked to give you more than your fill of local history.

To mention a few that we're excited about, you can learn about the history of SF's municipal power system from the SFPUC, hear a talk about the Twin Peaks Tunnel from our friends at Western Neighborhoods Project, or find out what exciting plans the California Historical Society has in store for the Old Mint.

If you can't make it down, you can always follow us on Instagram for more great SFMTA Photo Archive photos!
