Help Make Taylor Street Safer for Everyone
Starting with an open house next week, we’re kicking off the Safer Taylor Street project to shape a plan that will make Taylor safer and more equitable for everyone getting around.
For this project, the SFMTA, the Department of Public Health, San Francisco Public Works and the Planning Department will come together to collaborate with the community of residents, businesses, social services and advocacy organizations that care about Taylor to develop a new vision for the street.
The Safer Taylor Street project is part of San Francisco’s Vision Zero effort to eliminate traffic deaths in the city by 2024. This segment of Taylor, between Market and Sutter streets, is part of the 12 percent of city streets that see 70 percent of serious traffic injuries and fatalities in San Francisco. From 2011 to 2016, the street saw 109 collisions, 69 of which involved people walking and biking – an average of one per month. This project will be coordinated with other Vision Zero initiatives on downtown streets like Market, Turk, Eddy, Ellis and Geary.
We invite everyone to come to our open house next Wednesday, June 28 to learn about Vision Zero, meet the Safer Taylor Street project team and our partners, and share input on how you get around in the neighborhood.
