Chinese New Year Parade: February 19, 2022

The Annual Chinese New Year Parade & Festival will take place Saturday evening. Parade formation will begin around 3 p.m. along Main, Market and 2nd streets. The Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. from Market & 2nd St and will go along Market, Geary, around Union Square on to Post, then along Kearny to Columbus, disbanding on Columbus between Pacific and Washington. Muni will reroute buses that serve or cross Market Street. Read below for more information which routes will be impacted, when they will be impacted and where to board during the reroute.

The annual two-day Chinese New Year Community Fair will take place on February 19-20 from 10am to 4:30pm on Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday. The event will be held on Grant Avenue between California & Broadway and on the streets crossing Grant between Stockton & Kearny.  Street Closures begin Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11pm and conclude Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 11pm.

Getting to the Parade

The easiest way to get to Parade is via the Market Street Subway at Montgomery Station, near the beginning of the parade. Powell Station is also nearby, just a few blocks from where the Parade goes around Union Square.

Free Fares for Lunar New Year Weekend

Street Closures

Several streets in the Financial District will be closed for parade staging and for the parade itself. They will reopen after the parade is clear and streets are cleaned, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Muni Impact Summary

Many Muni routes will reroute or switchback--changing from inbound to outbound--before they reach Downtown. Most Market Street routes will operate on Mission Street instead. Routes that cross Market Street will be rerouted around the event areas. Reroutes start at different times, but all service will return to normal once the Parade clears the streets.

To the Castro, the reroute will begin at Don Chee Way, left on Steuart, right on Mission, right on 3rd St, left on Market to the regular route.

L Taraval Bus 2 p.m. To Downtown, the reroute will begin at Market & 4th, right on 4th, left on Mission, left on Steuart to the terminal.
To the Outer Sunset, the reroute will begin on Steuart between Market & Mission, left on Market, left on Spear, right on Mission to the regular route.
California Cable Car 2 p.m.

The Cable Car will be operated by a bus.
To Downtown, the reroute will begin at California & Stockton, right on Stockton, right on Pine, right on Powell, right on Broadway, right on Sansome, left on California to the regular route.
To Van Ness Ave, the reroute will begin at California & Sansome, right on Sansome, left on Broadway, left on Stockton, right on Pacific, left on Powell, right on California to the regular route.

Powell/Hyde Cable Car 2 p.m. No service to Market Street. Switchback will be at Washington & Powell streets.
Powell/Mason Cable Car 2 p.m. No service to Market Street. Switchback will will be at Washington & Powell streets.
1 California 2 p.m. The reroute will be along Broadway, between Stockton and Sansome in both directions.
5 Fulton 2 p.m. To Downtown, the reroute will begin at Market & 4th St, right on 4th St, left on Mission to the Salesforce Transit Center. On Mission Street between 3rd & Beale, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
To Ocean Beach, the reroute will be along Mission St, right on 3rd St, left on Market to the regular route. On Mission Street between Fremont & 2nd, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
7 Haight/Noriega

2 p.m.

To Downtown, the reroute will begin at Market & 4th St, right on 4th St, left on Mission to the Salesforce Transit Center. On Mission Street between 3rd & Main, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
To Ocean Beach, the reroute will be along Mission St, right on 3rd St, left on Market to the regular route. On Mission Street between Main & 2nd, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
8 Bayshore 2 p.m. To Fisherman's Wharf, the reroute will begin at 3rd St & Mission, right on Mission, left on Embarcadero, left on Broadway, right on Columbus to the regular route. On Mission Street between 3rd & Main, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
To City College, reroute will begin at Stockton & Sutter, right on Sutter, left on Mason, left on Market, right on 4th St to the regular route. Vehicle will pick up on Market between 4th St & 5th St, southside, at the curbside bus stop for Route 5. 
9 San Bruno 2 p.m. To Downtown, the reroute will begin at Market & 4th St, right on 4th St, left on Mission, left on Steuart, left on Market to terminal. On Mission Street between 3rd & Beale, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission. 
To Visitacion Valley, the reroute will begin at Market & Spear, left on Spear, right on Mission, right on 3rd St, left on Market to the regular route. On Mission Street between Main & 2nd, vehicle will use bus stops marked for Route 14 Mission.
12 Folsom/Pacific 2 p.m. To Russian Hill,
  • South of Market: the reroute will begin on Folsom & 1st St., left on 2nd St, right on Mission, left on Steuart, left on Market, right on Drumm to the regular route.
  • North of Market: the reroute will begin on Sansome Street, left on Broadway, left on Stockton, right on Pacific to the regular route.
14 Mission 10 a.m. Temporary terminal will be on Spear between Market & Mission (motorcycle parking just past the existing bus stop).
14R Mission Rapid 10 a.m. Temporary terminal will be on Spear between Market & Mission (motorcycle parking just past the existing bus stop).
15 Bayview Hunters Point Express 3 p.m. No service to bus stop at Sutter & Sansome St. Last stop will be Market & 3rd St.
30 Stockton 2 p.m. To The Marina, the reroute will begin at 3rd St & Market, left on Market, right on Turk, right on Taylor, right on Bush, right on Grant, right on Sutter, right on Stockton to the regular route. Vehicle will pick up on Market between 4th St & 5th St, northside, at the curbside bus stop for Route 5. 
To Caltrain, the reroute will begin at Stockton & Sutter, right on Sutter, left on Mason, left on Market, right on 4th St to the regular route. Vehicle will pick up on Market between 4th St & 5th St, southside, at the curbside bus stop for Route 5. 
38 Geary 2 p.m. To Downtown, the reroute will begin at O'Farrell & Mason, right on Mason, left on Market, right on 4th St, left on Mission, right on Beale to the Salesforce Transit Center. Vehicle will pick up on Market between 4th St & 5th St, northside, at the curbside bus stop for Route 5.
