The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for the week, from Thursday, April 16 through Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Cole Valley Nights

Thursday, April 16: Cole Valley Night Market event will take place in the western neighborhood on Cole Street between Carl and Parnassus streets. Event hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m.

A street closure of Cole Street from Frederick Street to Parnassus Avenue will be required from noon to 11:59 p.m. Intersection of Cole and Carl streets will remain open.

The following Muni routes will be affected: 37 Corbett and 43 Masonic.

Greek Heritage Parade

Sunday, April 19: The Greek Heritage Parade will take place in the Union Square area. Event hours are from noon to 5 p.m. The event will feature ‘live’ Greek music concert. More event details, visit uhasca.org/greek-independence.

A 5-minute rolling street closure will be required from 12:45 to 1:50 p.m.:

  • Post Street between Ellis and Post streets
  • Stockton Street Ellis and Post streets
  • Powell Street Ellis and Post streets

The following Muni routes will be impacted: Powell-Mason Cable Car; Powell-Hyde Cable Car; 2 Sutter; 8 Bayshore; 15 Bayview-Hunters Point; 30 Stockton; 38 Geary; 38R Geary Rapid; and 45 Union/Stockton.

Castro Night Market

Friday, April 17: The Castro Night Market will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on 18th and Castro streets. For more details, visit castro-night-market.

The following street and parking lot closures will be required from 11 a.m., Friday, April 17 to 1 am., Saturday, April 18:

  • 18th Street between Collingwood and Hartford streets
  • The SFMTA parking lot behind Walgreens

The 33 Ashbury/18th Street Muni route will be affected.

Cherry Blossom Festival

Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19: The 59th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival will be held on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. For event details visit www.sfcherryblossom.org.

The following street closures will be required:

  • From 4 a.m. Saturday, April 18 to 11 p.m. Sunday, April 19:
    • Post Street between Laguna and Fillmore streets
    • Webster Street between Geary Boulevard and Sutter Street
    • Intersection; Webster Street at Post Street

The Cherry Blossom Grand Parade will take place on Sunday, April 19. At 10 a.m., parade units will gather at Civic Center. A procession will start from Civic Center at 1 p.m., following a route from Polk and McAllister streets, north on Polk Street and west on Post Street and ending in Japantown at Post and Fillmore streets.

All intersections along the parade route will remain open except when the parade passes. Streets will re-open as soon as possible after the parade passes and the streets have been cleaned.

The following Muni routes will be affected with reroutes: 2 Sutter; 5 Fulton; 6 Hayes/Parnassus and 19 Polk.

The following Muni routes will be affected with delays: 22 Fillmore; 31 Balboa; 38 Geary; 38R Geary Rapid and 49 Van Ness/Mission. Muni riders on these routes should allow extra travel time.

Special Event Parking will be available for the weekend days for the festival, Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19:

  • Japan Center Main Garage at 1650 Geary Boulevard will open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., regular hourly rate applies.
  • Fillmore Street Annex Garage at 1650 Fillmore Street will open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. A $30 flat-rate event parking fee will be charged for valet-assisted parking between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., NO in and out privileges will be allowed. Regular hourly rate will apply between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Temporary Taxi Stand: There is one located at Buchanan Street, 1800-1832 block, between Sutter and Bush Streets.

Haight Ashbury Activity

Monday, April 20: Heavy pedestrian traffic may be anticipated around the intersection of Haight and Stanyan streets and on Haight Street between Stanyan Street and Masonic Avenue between 1 and 5 p.m. Drivers are advised to use caution. Some Muni delays may occur. No street closures are planned, but personnel from San Francisco Police Department may implement closures if necessary for public safety.

The following Muni lines and routes may be affected: N Judah 5 Fulton; 7 Haight/Noriega; 33 Ashbury/18th Street; 37 Corbett and 43 Masonic.

Traffic delays may occur in the area. Motorists who normally use Lincoln Way, Fell or Oak streets to travel between the Sunset District and downtown may consider using alternate routes.

San Francisco Giants Games

Tuesday, April 21 through Thursday, April 23: The San Francisco Giants will play three games at the ballpark. Listed below are the start time of these games:

  • Three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers: 1) 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, April 21; 2) 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, April 22; and 3) 12:45 p.m., Thursday, April 23.

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the ballpark, the following street closures will be enforced:

  • Two and a half hours before the opening pitch, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic. King Street will reopen after first pitch until the seventh inning.
  • From the seventh inning until post-game traffic dies down, the SFMTA will again close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic in order to reduce congestion on city streets.
  • Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street Bridge (Peter R. Maloney Bridge) will be closed to all traffic except Muni, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period.

Taxi Stands

  • 2nd Street, west side, between Brannan and King Streets
  • 2nd Street, east side, between Townsend and King Streets
  • 3rd Street, east side, north of King Street

Special Event Parking Rates

During baseball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the ballpark, parking meters close to the ballpark will charge a special event rate of $12 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the ballpark, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

NEW: I‑80 SFO Bay Bridge West Span Paint Project

Beginning Tuesday, April 7, Caltrans will be implementing overnight lane closures on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge west span to repaint the west span of the bridge for this preservation project. Other work, such as cable and joint rehabilitation may be performed during these lane closures as well. One to three lanes will be closed from Sunday nights to Friday mornings, between 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m. The bridge will not be closed for this work; crews will set up containment around the work areas and traffic control will be in place. This work will require several months to complete but schedules are dependent on weather conditions.

UPDATE: San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Joint Rehabilitation Project

To facilitate the project, there are ramp closures scheduled throughout the project.

Eastbound I‑80 SFOBB On‑Ramp Nightly Closures

Caltrans is implementing temporary eastbound I‑80 on‑ramp closures to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge during Thursday through Sunday nighttime hours. Detours will be clearly posted, motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes when possible.

The First Street On‑Ramp onto eastbound I-80 continues to be closed overnight between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., the next morning. Closures are scheduled for Monday, April 13 to Thursday, April 16.

The Essex and Transit Ramp onto eastbound I-80 continues to be closed overnight between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., the next morning. Closures are scheduled for: 1) Wednesday, April 15 to Thursday, April 16; 2) Monday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 21; and 3) Tuesday, April 28 to Wednesday, April 29.

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-4K1104 (19th Avenue)

Phase 2 (Paving Work)Caltrans will begin paving 19th Avenue between Lincoln Way and Holloway in April 2026. During construction, two traffic lanes will be closed and one open on the segment in construction. Alternate routes will be established to route traffic around the segment in construction using Junipero Sera Boulevard, Sloat Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard and Lincoln Way.

Listed below are schedules of phase 2 paving work:

  • From 7 a.m., Friday, April 24 until 5 a.m., Monday, April 26: Northbound 19th Avenue between Sloat Boulevard and Lincoln Way will be repaved
  • From 7 a.m., Friday, May 8 until 5 a.m., Monday, May 10: Southbound 19th Avenue between Lincoln and Sloat Boulevard will be repaved
  • From 7 a.m., Friday, May 22 until 10 p.m., Monday, May 25: Southbound and Northbound 19th Avenue between Sloat Boulevard and Holloway Avenue will be repaved

UPDATE: Caltrans Work—04-1Q802 US101 (Hospital Curve)

Caltrans has not announced closures for this project for the upcoming weeks.

UPDATE: Bridge Rehabilitation of Central (US 101) and Bayshore (I-80) Viaducts

The Bridge Rehabilitation of the Central (US-101) and Bayshore (1-80) Viaducts is a vital project to strengthen and rehabilitate the viaducts which are 71-years old. To facilitate the project, ramp closures are scheduled throughout the project.

Below is information with closure schedules:

From Friday, April 17 to Monday, April 20

  • Eastbound I-80: A 55-hour full closure from 17th Street to 4th Street beginning in the evening of Friday, April 17 and ending in the morning of Monday, April 20.

SFMTA Parking Control Officers will be deployed along key detour routes during this closure.

Caltrans contractors will deploy traffic control personnel and message boards will be in place in advance of the closures. For project information, visit Bridge Rehabilitation of Central (US 101) and Bayshore (I-80) Viaducts.

ONGOING: 13th Street Safety Project

Now until 2027: The 13th Street Safety Project is currently under construction to deliver new traffic safety improvements on 13th Street and Duboce Avenue between Folsom and Valencia streets, including protected bike lanes, sidewalk extensions, traffic signal upgrades, accessibility upgrades, sewer upgrades, repaving, and parking/loading changes.

Crews will work at multiple locations over the course of construction, with intermittent lane impacts, traffic shifts, and parking restrictions. Road users should use caution near crews, follow posted signage, and plan for extra travel time when moving through the corridor.

ONGOING: Transbay Howard Streetscape Project – Road Construction

Feb. 2026 through 2028: As a part of the Transbay Howard Streetscape Project, new safety upgrades, traffic signal infrastructure, landscaping and a protected two-way bicycle lane are being built on Howard Street between The Embarcadero and 4th Street.

Due to work at multiple sites, expect intermittent delays and lane closures on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drivers should exercise caution near construction zones, follow posted detour signage, and consider using alternate routes. During major events and conventions, work will be paused near Moscone Center.

ONGOING: SFPUC Geary Boulevard Sewer and Water Replacements

Now until 2027: Replacement work of sewer and water lines is currently taking place along Geary Boulevard between 32nd Avenue and Stanyan Street. Due to construction work at multiple locations, some of the bus stops for Muni routes 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid will be temporarily relocated nearby. Riders should look for orange signage at impacted bus stops.
