2026 Pokémon World Championship

Friday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Aug. 30: The 2026 Pokémon World Championship will take place at the Moscone Center and at Chase Center. For more information visit https://worlds.pokemon.com.

Street Closures

Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Tuesday, Sept. 1: Around the event location near the Moscone Center, full and partial street closures will be required:

Full Closure

From 6 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19 through 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1:

  • Howard Street between 3rd and 4th streets

From Tuesday, Aug. 25, through Sunday, Aug. 30, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily:

  • Minna Street between 4th Street and 500 feet west of 4th Street

Partial Closures

From 6 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, through 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1:

  • Howard Street between Hawthorne and 3rd streets
  • 3rd Street between Folsom and Mission streets
  • Folsom Street between 3rd and 4th streets
  • 4th Street between Howard and Folsom streets

From 10 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26 through 4 a.m., Monday, Aug. 31:

  • Howard Street between 4th street and 500 feet west of 4th Street

Muni Service

During the event, there will be NO IMPACT on Muni service. Muni customer may experience some minor delays in the event area.

Parking Garages

Parking garages in the area are open.

Taxi Zones

A Taxi Zone is established on the east side of 3rd Street between Howard and Folsom streets and on the south side of Howard Street between 4th and 5th streets.

Cole Valley Nights

Thursday, Aug. 20: Cole Valley Night Market event will take place on Cole Street between Carl and Parnassus streets. Event hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m.

A street closure of Cole Street from Frederick Street to Parnassus Avenue will be required from noon to 11:59 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20

Intersection of Cole and Carl streets will remain open.

The following Muni routes will be affected: 37 Corbett and 43 Masonic.

Event at Chase Center

Thursday, Aug. 20:  Performance by Daniel Caesar will take place at Chase Center. The show will start at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m.

Muni will provide supplement 78X Arena Express service:

  • Pre-event express shuttle service from 16th Street BART Station to Chase Center will start two and a half hours before each game/event and will end one hour after game/event starts.
  • Post-event express shuttle service from Chase Center to 16th Street BART Station will run until the crowd clears.

Special Event Parking Rates

During basketball games and other major events with more than 10,000 expected attendees at the arena, parking meters close to the arena will charge a special event rate of $13 per hour. These rates help reduce congestion and keep parking spots available in the neighborhoods near the arena, discouraging circling for free or cheap parking. Start times for special event rates vary based on the start time of the event. More information on special event parking regulations can be found on www.sfmta.com/special-event-parking.

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the arena, the following street closures will be enforced two hours before and one hour after each event:

  • 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Northbound 3rd Street between 16th Street and Warriors Way will also be closed approximately 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after the event.

Only local access will be allowed on Northbound Illinois Street between Mariposa and 16th streets.

No Parking Zone

To facilitate loading and pick up for Muni customers and patrons, NO PARKING will be in effect at these locations during events:

  • 16th Street between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Warriors Way between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard
  • Between the 500 and 700 blocks of Terry Francois Boulevard (TFB)

Taxi Stands

  • There is one taxi stand located on southbound Terry Francois Boulevard.
  • Ramp Taxis should use the loading zone on eastbound Warriors Way at Bridgeview Way.

Other pickup/drop-off locations near Chase Center

  • 4th Street, which connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.
  • Owens Street, which also connects to Chase Center via the Gene Friend Way pedestrian path on the UCSF campus.

Castro Night Market

Friday, Aug. 21: The Castro Night Market will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. on 18th and Castro streets. For more details, visit castro-night-market.

The following street and parking lot closures will be required from 11 a.m., Friday, Friday, Aug. 21 to 1 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22:

  • 18th Street between Diamond and Hartford streets
  • The SFMTA parking lot behind Walgreens

The 33 Ashbury/18th Street Muni route will be affected.

Excelsior Night Market

Friday, Aug. 21: The Excelsior Action Group will host the From the E: End of Summer Night Market on Ocean Avenue and Mission Street. Event will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

The following street closure will be required from noon to 11:59 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21:

  • Ocean Avenue between Mission Street and Persia Avenue

The 49 Van Ness/Mission Muni route will be affected.

Guardsmen Marina Block Party

Saturday, Aug. 22: There is a block party on Chestnut Street with live music, local food vendors and craft makers.

The following street closures will be required from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22:

  • Chestnut Street between Pierce and Divisadero streets
  • Scott Street between Chestnut Street and 90 feet northerly
  • Intersection closed: Chestnut Street at Scott Street

The 33 Ashbury/18th Street Muni route will be affected.

Sunday Streets – Bayview

Sunday, Aug. 23: The third Sunday Streets event for 2026 will be held in the Bayview neighborhood. Event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Sunday Streets is an open streets event put on by Livable City with support and collaboration from the SFMTA to promote active lifestyle and bicycle and pedestrian activities. Streets will be closed to traffic and turned over for bike and pedestrian activities for these events. The event is free to all participants. For event details visit www.sundaystreetssf.com/bayview.

The following street closures will be required from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday:

  • Armstrong Avenue between 3rd and Keith streets
  • Keith Street between Armstrong and Bancroft avenues
  • Keith Street between Bancroft and Carroll avenues
  • Lane Street between Underwood and Thomas avenues
  • Lane Street between Van Dyke and Underwood avenues
  • Thomas Avenue between 3rd and Lane streets
  • Underwood Avenue between 3rd and Lane streets
  • Intersections closed: 3rd Street at Armstrong Avenue; Carroll Avenue at Keith Street; 3rd Street at Underwood Avenue; 3rd Street at Thomas Avenue; Lane Street at Thomas Avenue; Lane Street at Underwood Avenue 

There will be no impact on Muni service.

Oyster Day

Sunday, Aug. 23: Lillie Coits is holding an Oyster Day event on Powell Street in North Beach. This event celebrates the fourth annual Oyster Day with activities that include live music, oyster tastings and family-friendly festivities. It will take place on Powell Street between Columbus Avenue and Union Street, from noon to 10:00 p.m.

A street closure of Powell Street between Columbus Avenue and Union Street will be required from 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23.

The 39 Coit Muni route will be affected.

San Francisco Giants Games

Monday, Aug. 24 through Wednesday, Aug. 26:The San Francisco Giants will play three games at the ballpark. Listed below are the start time for these games:

  • Three games against the Cincinnati Reds: a) 6:45 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24; b) 6:45 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25; and c) 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Street Closures

To accommodate events that will take place at the ballpark, the following street closures will be enforced:

  • Two and a half hours before the opening pitch, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic. King Street will reopen after first pitch until the seventh inning.
  • From the seventh inning until post-game traffic dies down, the SFMTA will again close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets to vehicle traffic in order to reduce congestion on city streets.
  • Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street Bridge (Peter R. Maloney Bridge) will be closed to all traffic except Muni, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period.

Taxi Stands

  • 2nd Street, west side, between Brannan and King Streets
  • 2nd Street, east side, between Townsend and King Streets
  • 3rd Street, east side, north of King Street

Special Event Parking Rates

Noe Valley Night Market

Tuesday, Aug. 25: The Noe Valley Night Market will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place on 24th Street. between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets. For event details visit noemerchants.com.

A closure of 24th Street. between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets will be required from 2 to 10 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25. All intersections will remain open.

The 48 Quintara/24th Street Muni route will be impacted.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES

UPDATE: Caltrans San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Caltrans began a new project to install a temporary bridge installation platform (Safe Span) on the upper portion of the lower deck of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB). This work requires overnight staggered lane closures of eastbound I-80 from the San Francisco Anchorage/Rincon Hill to the Yerba Buena Island Tunnel, leaving at least one lane open for the traveling public. Lane closures will occur most nights through October 2026, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays. All lanes will reopen each morning.

Listed below are schedules of lane reduction. Hours and number of lanes will be adjusted as needed in response to late-night event traffic:

  • Lane 1 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Lanes 1 and 2 will be closed from 11 p.m to 7 a.m.
  • Lanes 1, 2 and 3 will be closed from 12 to 6 a.m.
  • Lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be closed from 1 to 5 a.m.
  • On Thursday nights Lane 4 will be closed at 2 a.m.

UPDATE: Caltrans Project 04-1Q8204 US 101 Hospital Curve Pave and Median Contract

Friday, Aug. 21 through Monday, Aug. 24: Caltrans will reduce lanes along the southbound and northbound U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve) in the City of San Francisco for the entire weekend to complete crucial median road work as part of the Fab 4 Hospital Curve Rehabilitation projects which began in Fall 2025.

Lane reductions will begin at 11 p.m., Friday Aug. 21 when two northbound lanes and two southbound lanes between Cesar Chavez and 17th streets will be closed. These lanes will reopen by 6 a.m., Monday Aug. 24. During the weekend, two lanes in the northbound and two in the southbound lanes will remain open to the traveling public. Motorists are advised to avoid driving northbound and southbound US-101 Bayshore Freeway (Hospital Curve).

Motorists should use the I-280 as an alternate route traveling southbound to The Peninsula and South Bay and traveling northbound to downtown, or to the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, to avoid the work zone and traffic delays. Public transportation should be seriously considered in place of driving.

Friday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day Weekend) and Friday, Sept. 18 through Monday, Sept. 21: Caltrans project will be fully closing Northbound US 101 between Cesar Chavez Street and 7th Street exit to perform concrete pavement replacement work. Northbound I-280 and Northbound Potrero are alternate routes during this work.

Friday, Oct. 2 through Monday, Oct. 5 and Friday, Oct. 16 through Monday, Oct. 19: Caltrans contractors will then proceed to fully close Southbound US-101 between 9th Street/Civic Center exit and Cesar Chavez Street exit. Southbound I-280 via 6th Street and Southbound Potrero are alternate routes during this work. More details to follow.

Caltrans contractors will deploy traffic control personnel and message boards will be in place in advance of the closures. SFMTA Parking Control Officers will be assisting along critical points along detour routes to help facilitate traffic congestion. Motorists are advised to take other modes of transportation to travel in and out of San Francisco over these weekends. 04-1Y720 SFOBB Bridge Deck Joint Rehabilitation & Joint Seal Replacement

Monday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 27: Caltrans Bridge Rehabilitation project will require closure of Sterling Street. on ramp, for three nights, from Monday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 27, from 12:45 to 7 a.m. each night. Motorists are advised to use an alternate approach such as the First Street or the Essex Street on ramps.

The Sterling Street on ramp closures are necessary to complete ongoing SFOBB work including the west span joint rehabilitation project and the structural steel painting and spall repair project.

UPDATE: Chinatown Construction

Drivers, Muni riders and visitors in and around construction zones should allow extra time when visiting the neighborhood.

Portsmouth Square Construction

As part of the Portsmouth Square Improvement Project, the demolition of the Kearny Street pedestrian bridge is now complete.

Chinatown Public Health Center

As part of the construction for the Chinatown Public Health Center Renovation Project, significant traffic impacts in the Broadway Tunnels are anticipated.

Following a one-day full closure on Sunday, Aug. 16, the Broadway Tunnel is now partially open at reduced capacity with one westbound lane and one eastbound lane. The Broadway Tunnel will remain partially open for approximately 14 months.

Please use other alternate routes as early as possible to reduce congestion in the construction area.

UPDATE: Castro Station Accessibility Improvement Project

Construction of the new elevator at Castro Station is wrapping up and once completed will provide continuous accessible access to the Castro Station. Until then, please continue to use the escalator on the north side for accessibility to the station.

ONGOING: 13th Street Safety Project

Now until 2027: The 13th Street Safety Project is currently under construction to deliver new traffic safety improvements on 13th Street and Duboce Avenue between Folsom and Valencia streets, including protected bike lanes, sidewalk extensions, traffic signal upgrades, accessibility upgrades, sewer upgrades, repaving, and parking/loading changes.

Crews will work at multiple locations over the course of construction, with intermittent lane impacts, traffic shifts, and parking restrictions. Road users should use caution near crews, follow posted signage, and plan for extra travel time when moving through the corridor.

ONGOING: Transbay Howard Streetscape Project – Road Construction

Feb. 2026 through 2028: As a part of the Transbay Howard Streetscape Project, new safety upgrades, traffic signal infrastructure, landscaping and a protected two-way bicycle lane are being built on Howard Street between The Embarcadero and 4th Street.

Due to work at multiple sites, expect intermittent delays and lane closures on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drivers should exercise caution near construction zones, follow posted detour signage, and consider using alternate routes. During major events and conventions, work will be paused near Moscone Center.

ONGOING: SFPUC Geary Boulevard Sewer and Water Replacements

Now until 2027: Replacement work of sewer and water lines is currently taking place along Geary Boulevard between 32nd Avenue and Stanyan Street. Due to construction work at multiple locations, some of the bus stops for Muni routes 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid will be temporarily relocated nearby. Riders should look for orange signage at impacted bus stops.

UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION

UPCOMING: Caltrans Project 04-0Q020 Bayshore and Central Viaduct Contract

Friday, Oct. 23 to Monday, Oct. 26: Caltrans will conduct a full closure of westbound I-80 between 4th Street and the US-101/I-80 interchange the weekend from Friday, Oct. 23 to Monday, Oct. 26. Detours and alternate routes will be established, signed and messaged. More details to follow.
