SFO Airport

San Francisco International Airport is the best way to fly in and out of the Bay Area. The airport is located approximately 14 miles to downtown San Francisco. Muni is San Francisco's public transportation system, but the city can be conveniently reached via taxis and public transporation listed below. For more information on San Francisco International Airport, visit flysfo.org.

SFMTA Taxis (to San Francisco)

Map of SFO designated taxi zones

At SFO Airport, San Francisco taxis depart from designated taxi zones located at the roadway center islands, on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals.

Only choose San Francisco taxis for a San Francisco destination. Heading south to the peninsula from the airport (towards San Jose) using a San Francisco taxi will result in a different (and more expensive) fare rate. If you are heading south of the airport, ask the driver what city their company is based in before you get in.

BART, Caltrain, SamTrans (non-SFMTA public transportation)

SFO’s public transportation options include the following:

BART - Serving the Bay Area, parts of San Francisco and Downtown S.F.

Caltrain - Serving the peninsula, parts of San Francisco and Santa Clara counties

SamTrans - Serving San Mateo County, parts of San Francisco and Santa Clara counties
