SFMTA on Twitter

The SFMTA’s Twitter account, @sfmta_muni, provides real-time alerts about Muni service disruptions, information about the SFMTA’s work and notices about upcoming events that affect transportation in San Francisco.

Staffed Hours

  • Monday - Friday: 5 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Saturday - Sunday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.*

*Weekend hours may vary to provide staff during special events.

During staffed hours, we provide live Muni alerts and can respond to information requests from Twitter users who mention our handle, “@sfmta_muni.” In providing live Muni service information, we can better assist users who provide their location, Muni line, direction and their vehicle’s four-digit number. We may be able to provide other general transportation information if it’s readily available.

Non-emergency complaints and other customer service requests should be submitted to 311 for investigation and follow-up. For emergencies, call 911.

We also look to Twitter users as additional eyes and ears on the streets. We monitor Twitter for feedback and reports that may help inform our real-time transportation management.

We use the following hashtags to identify the Muni Metro rail lines and historic streetcar lines in our service alert tweets.

Historic Streetcar Lines:

  • #ELine = E Embarcadero
  • #FMarket = F Market & Wharves

Metro Lines:

  • #Subwaysvc = Muni Metro subway service between West Portal and Embarcadero stations, which includes all Metro lines.
  • #JChurch = J Church
  • #KIngleside = K Ingleside
  • #LTaraval = L Taraval
  • #MOceanView = M Ocean View
  • #NJudah = N Judah
