Bay to Breakers
Sunday, May 15, 2016, 8:00 am — Sunday, May 15, 2016, 12:00 pm

About this Event

Bay to Breakers is San Francisco's favorite footrace, taking people across the City from the eastern, Bay side of the City, to meet the sea breakers along the west side of the City. Like Muni itself, the race dates back to 1912 and touches nearly every neighborhood in the City.

This information here will help all customers -  participants or not - stay informed of special service "running" on race day, and provide service alerts to watch out for as streets close to traffic and open to runners. If you're attending the race, we can help you get to there and back again car-free. If you're going about your business as usual, we want to help you get around amidst all the hustle and bustle.

2016 service impacts and special race day express information:

Getting to the starting line:
The closest stop to the starting line is Muni Metro Embarcadero Station.

MuniMobile is the easiest way buy your tickets for any Muni services instantly before the race. Skip the lines and buy tickets ahead of time or on the go, then activate when you are ready to ride. With MuniMobile, your phone is your fare.

Customers may also use a preloaded Clipper Card, or purchase tickets at Muni Metro Embarcadero station.

Muni passes are also available for purchase on the Bay to Breakers registration page. These passes are valid all day on race day on Muni services (excluding cable car). Muni passes may also be purchased at the Expo on May 13 and 14.

For help with Muni service on Sunday, May 15 look for SFMTA staff wearing bright orange vests.

Getting home from the finish line:
After the race, Muni buses will be staged at the finish line area, ready to provide special service downtown. Fare must be paid before boarding, or MuniMobile tickets activated upon boarding. Lok for buses at:

  1. Fulton Street between 47th and 45th avenues
  2. Judah and La Playa streets

Buying Muni tickets after the race:

The race will impact regular Muni service all day Sunday, May 15. Please check back here for full service alert, re-routes, traffic and delay details. Call San Francisco 311 Customer Service Center before the race day for personalized assistance.
