Project Overview

Muni Forward

Muni Forward aims to make getting around San Francisco safer and more reliable. Informed by the Transit Effectiveness Project, recent and upcoming route changes and service improvements are helping to reallocate limited resources where they are needed most. The new Rapid Network of core routes serving nearly 70% of all riders will see additional service increases in the coming months to provide a more reliable and frequent trip. With new buses on order, our updated transit fleet and important safety and accessibility improvements across the city, combined with the WalkFirst projects, are creating a safer, more comfortable and walkable environment for our customers and anyone traveling in San Francisco. Using technology more effectively by improving the integration of our transit system with traffic signals and bringing more real-time information to our customers will make our transit system smarter, safer, and more reliable.

By harnessing the combined benefits of these projects, many of which are already underway, we are working to give back to our customers what they value most: their time.

Project Details

Muni Forward's plans to enhance safety for people walking, create a Rapid Network, and improve Muni reliability will be achieved with the combined implementation of two programs: service changes and transit priority projects. 

Service Changes:

The service changes being implemented will reduce crowding, improve system-wide neighborhood connectivity and access to regional transit, and redirect finite public resources to where they are needed most. 

Transit Priority Projects:

Transit priority projects are engineering improvements designed to address transit delay, improve reliability, and increase the safety and comfort of customers along our most heavily used routes. Stay up to date with the status of our transit priority projects
