On-street accessible parking or blue zones are normally located in areas with high public use, such as in dense commercial areas, near the entrance of public facilities and services like libraries, public parks and playgrounds, or any destination where the blue zones can serve many individuals. Vehicles with a valid disabled parking permit may use blue zones. Blue zones are not intended to provide parking for one person or a handful of people on a residential block.

Blue zones are effective 24 hours a day except during street cleaning hours, during tow-away hours, or when otherwise restricted by a special event or construction permit. Vehicles without disabled parking permits are prohibited from parking in blue zones and are subject to citations and towing.

*Please note: Disabled placards or plates do not exempt vehicles from loading regulations. Parking for longer than the regulated time limit in a loading zone is not permitted for any vehicle including one with a placard or plates. All vehicles parked unattended beyond posted time limits will be subject to citation or tow.

If you are interested in a larger neighborhood or corridor wide evaluation of accessible parking, please contact Taxis, Access & Mobility Services

To apply for a single parking space for a business or institution, please visit the Curb Zone Application Webpage. There is no application fee for a blue zone.

If your application for a single parking space is accepted, legislation to create the proposed zone will be publicly noticed via a posting notice at the location of the proposed change and will be heard via a 10-day public comment period. After the comment period and review with the Curb Access team, the City Traffic Engineer makes a final determination.  For more information on this process please visit the Curb Zone Changes - Public Noticing and Comment Period webpage.
